I discovered few years ago the amazing Sourdough Country bread at the Farm in Byron and this bread is amazing. You could it the whole big thing in a day , with butter Real butter it's to die for. I am French we are French and we love a very good bread So when sometimes, when I go to Tweed I have to go to the bread social, I discovered today that they expanded the little shop and very happy for them .. We wanted a good sandwich..But Not a "fashionable" ,complicated one. Good bread, Butter good ham, true Gruyere It's the dream .Or chicken, avo etc etc Classic but delicious.....We couldn't, unfortunately choose a sandwiche (cabbage, pickled, apple This and that ) So we took , because we were advised by a very nice lady a sausage roll Beef onion and cheese. I never take sausage roll But I knew the pastry will be good., And it was..I of course wanted to buy my favourite bread but really they were all OVER COOKED burned..what a shamed And apparently it's how the owner likes it!!??? The croissant were as well over cooked ..and really that's not good because you can even taste the butter over cooked ..A croissant must be Goldy shiny moist..And not a deep dark brown.. So if the owner like his bread over cooked or burned Make half of it and leave the customer enjoy a Goldy bread ....(People can always toasted or burn it, if necessary) So beautiful products nice...
Read moreWe came across The Bread Social during our stay in the Byron Shire where’s its baked goods seemed to be stocked almost everywhere. Our intrigue was piqued and so we made a stop over at the cafe in Tweed Heads on our way back to Good Coast Airport.
It has a cool setup with a good amount of seating. There were plenty of customers but with quick turnover. They have heaps of options for sandwiches, pastries, pies, rolls and quiche. We had the scramble egg roll and a goat massaman curry pie. The egg roll was truly glorious - it was a beautiful example of simple flavours done right. The egg had a wonderful texture that was soft but also held itself together and paired with rocket, herbs and cheese, it was all perfectly balanced. The bread roll was a real winner and the recommendation to have it served fresh rather than toasted proved to be an excellent one to follow. The flavours of the goat massaman pie (which was listed as a special on the day we went) were incredible. The pastry was nice too, although we are partial to a flakier crust. Relish for the pie was an extra $1.50 - would have preferred slightly bigger chunks in it.
Would definitely return when in the area again. They should open up...
Read moreHas all the hallmarks of a nice cafe/bakery and while the food/bread is very good they completely miss the mark with the coffee. Unfortunately this poor experience has been repeated too many times so I'm now going elsewhere. Too often the coffee is too hot and/or poorly made - I.e. no care or attention is put into the process. Also, there is often a significant wait. While they let you know about delays, what they tell you is generally under quoted. A 10 minute wait ends up being 20 for example. To add insult to injury, they also add a 20% surcharge on Sundays. I'm not necessarily opposed to the surcharge, I'll pay top dollar for good quality coffee and service any day of the week - unfortunately, you're just not going to get that here. To the cafe - find a good barista and focus on improving your coffee service and I'll be back. TLDR - get your bread here but find somewhere...
