TLDR: First visit to restaraunt for a dim sum fix on Sunday morning. Mixed feelings about the quality of food. Still worth a try if you have not visited.
Arrival Timing Arrived around 9.40am and restaurant was around 50% capacity and manageable for staff. Suggest to arrive by 9.45am to avoid the crowd.
Driving Tips If driving in to city on weekends & public holidays, consider parking at Perth Cultural Centre just around 5 minutes stroll away. 3H free parking. Entrance is along Roe Street, Level 1 (see last photo. I went so far around the world to find the entrance!)
Food Items were served fresh from kitchen to you on push trolley and via trays. It was a mix of quality. Feel free to order directly as they may take a while to reach the corner areas.
a) Recommended to try: B2. Deep Fried Prawn Dumplings with Mayo (4 pcs): Stuffed with generous amount of prawn. D6. Egg Tarts (3 pcs): Skin was crispy. Filling was fine.
b) So-so B1.Chilli Salt and Pepper Squid Tentacles: Under-seasoned. Could be more crispy. B13. Deep Fried Yam Dumplings: Too big a piece and unappetising after a few bites.
c) Not Recommended: C8. BBQ Pork Rice Flour Rolls: Always had a good impression of rice flour rolls but this one left us disappointed. Flour and the meat cut was thick. Meat was bland. Limited soy sauce too. Overall unappetising...
Read moreMy wife and I are big fans of traditional yum cha establishments and we have tried various places. We absolutely love the vibe of clinking tea cups, squeaking yumcha trolleys knocking into chairs and the chatter all around. But nothing, we really mean nothing, comes close to Canton Bay Northbridge in terms of lacklustre service on a Tuesday morning (22 Nov 22) at 10.15am, no greeting upon entry (even a simple Hello suffices), hurrying us with hot tea order even before we were seated, and then abruptly taking away the tea cups when we requested a few minutes to peruse the menu. When we were seated, the tray of assorted fried dim sums and trolley of steamed baskets came around once. We eyed the staff to see if they would even make eye contact. Zilch. No eye contact whatsoever or even coming around to offer us more food. We had a fried taro puff which was oily and horrendously tasteless. The two baskets of siew mais and har gows were nothing spectacular. We finished what we had on the table and left like unwelcomed guests. Somehow felt like the kind of service one would get in a Hong Kong cha chan tang. I bet your dollar that you will find friendlier service, more fresh choices and better vibe just one street up at Fortune Five. The $39.80 yesterday morning I would consider it a write-off. Regret that the minimum rating I could give...
Read moreAn absolute horrible experience. My friend and I went to Canton Bay to have lunch and we waited for 30 minutes at the table and no waiters came and brought food over for us to look at. As it was not very busy, I thought that we had to make an order from the menu and let the chef make it so we asked a waitress. We explained to the waitress what dishes we wanted to have and the waitress said that we could not order any of those from the kitchen, we had to wait for the food carts to arrive. My friend and I had to wait a total of 40 minutes before we were served, unlike the group of older customers who sat adjacent to us and got served the moment they sat down. We tried to grab the attention of the women who served the table of older customers, however, quite rudely she ignored our raised hands multiple times. When the food cart arrived, one of the dishes that we wanted to have was not in the cart so we asked to order it. In hindsight, we should not have ordered that dish because it took another 30 minutes for it to arrive. We left quite abruptly after finishing that dish because we were starving and did not want to wait another 30 minutes for the food cart to come around again. Absolutely horrendous customer service, will definitely not...
