3.5 stars Cantonese restaurant. Environment: payable carparks nearby. Close to Perth station and underground busport. Many people are waiting outside. Very packed inside. --- 6.5/10 Service: come much earlier than rush hours to get a table. You are asked what kind of Chinese tea you want to drink when bringing to your tables. You are better tell her any tea flavors and extraly "a flask of hot water" because they are too busy and unable to refill water into your teapot 🫖 or have to wait for long. Most of the waitresses were very kind and gentle. One remembered what I wanted. She brought me a dish for me immediately when it's available. The owner was pretty pushy and wanted us to leave as fast as possible. --- 6/10 Tea (or hot water), $2/person: we ordered Jasmine. Use. Loose tea leaves. Not having strong Jasmine flavor. Chili oil came with the tea. I think $2 includes it. Dim sum: normal setting and traditional dim sum presentation. Reasonable price. Baked BBQ Pork Buns叉燒焗餐包, $7.2/3pcs: normally I don't like eating this, but it's really good. The ratio of bun and BBQ Pork was good. --- 8/10 Deep fried Yum Dumplings 峰巢炸芋角, $7.2/3ps: it's fluffy. Bigger than traditional. Beef Balls山竹牛肉球, $7.2/3pcs: not bad at least better than beef stomach. --- 7/10 Scallop Dumplings卜魚帶子餃, $8.8/3pcs: it's cooked for a while. Surprisingly, not bad, I really saw and tasted the Scallop. --- 7.6/10 Prawn Dumplings蝦餃, $9.2/4pcs: slight bigger size than traditional. Shape was very good. The pastry was shiny but not soggy. Flavor was ok, but not so outstanding to me. But very good in Perth. --- 7.8/10 Pan fried Fish cakes家鄉煎魚餅, $7.2/3pcs: not bad. Can try. ---7/10 Beef Stomach柱候蒸牛肚, $7.2: not so recommended. Roughly cut. Need to chew. Sauce was average. --- 5/10 Egg Tarts, $6.8/2pcs: pretty good. Crispy and fluffy pastry. Silky Egg...

A Frustrating and Deceptive Dining Experience

Our dinner at Northbridge Chinese Restaurant tonight was beyond disappointing. What should have been a pleasant gathering turned into an infuriating ordeal. Here’s what happened:

Terrible Seating Arrangement

We had reserved a table for 12 at 7:00 PM, but when we arrived, we were given a table meant for 8 people, with 4 extra chairs crammed in. The table was overcrowded, leaving no room to dine comfortably. This arrangement was completely unacceptable and showed a lack of respect for customers’ comfort.

Extremely Slow Service

We ordered two portions of Kyoto-style pork, four bowls of rice, and a few other dishes. Despite the dishes being small, the wait time was excessive—over an hour for food to arrive. Even worse, the dishes came out one by one with long delays in between, leaving us with an empty table most of the time. The white rice didn’t arrive until much later, and the entire experience felt poorly managed.

Misleading Portions and Overcharging

When the bill came, we were shocked to see a charge of $440. Upon reviewing the receipt, we found that every dish was charged as 1.5 portions, even though the actual servings were barely enough to qualify as a single portion. This was clearly deceptive and felt like a blatant attempt to overcharge. It’s outrageous how greedy this restaurant is, prioritizing profit over fairness and customer satisfaction.

Final Thoughts

This Restaurant not only failed in providing a satisfactory dining experience but also engaged in what felt like outright dishonesty. Between the cramped seating, slow service, and unfair pricing, this was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had. I strongly advise others to avoid this restaurant and steer clear of their questionable practices. We will not be returning and cannot recommend this...

I used to like going to this restaurant because of their dishes, their services were just bearable. (It is a family-run business. Non-family membered staff are polite, but family membered staff are so impatient and bossy). They treat you better if you order seafood or more expensive dishes. They always try to sell hard on fish, seafood dishes as well as their leftover dim sums from lunch at dinner. I can understand but never agree with it. What I experienced tonight was unacceptable and very unprofessional. To make sure that I can get a table on a Saturday’s night, I called restaurant half an hour earlier to book for a table. The lady on the phone did not take my name nor the contact number, she just told me that there will be tables available when I get there. I was running 13 mins late because it was so packed on the road and the nearest CPP was full. I carried my toddler daughter rushed to the restaurant while my husband continued to find a parking bay. When we arrived, the same lady on the phone told me I was half an hour late and there is no longer a table available. (I guess she never written my booking down because it was only 3 of us and she assumed we would not order expensive dishes). What happened next really shocked me. Just before I started talking, she told me she’s too busy to talk to me, in the meantime she showed me a “STOP” sign using her left hand and walked away. How rude! It is understandable that they were busy and I was late (only for 13mins) but she shouldn’t be this rude especially with the presence of a toddler. I left and I know they would not care including this review. I hope one day when they have difficulties with the business, they will finally realise that service is a key part of...

Edit 30 April 2023 Dined in for lunch and had their dimsum. This would be our third time being here for their dimsum. The place was overflowing with people, out the door busy. The wait was 20 mins for a table. Service was still accommodating considering how hectic the service was. Food were mainly tasty with some items being just ok. The main issue with this place is communication as some dont speak good English. Overall it was still a good lunch. However, I prefer their ala carte menu more. -------‐--------------------- Came for dinner with the whole family. Service was quick and efficient. It can be difficult to understand the ladies who work here due to their accent but most of the food were delicious. The ladies do hard sell on their food. Offering other dish when we know what exact dish we want. Just be firm and they should get the message. We had sizzling Japanese tofu, stir fry beef, seafood claypot with tofu, chicken fried noodle, roast duck, special chicken, szechuan style bean curd, fried vermicelli singapore style and spinach with two kind of eggs. We liked most of them.

We were here for a wedding reception dinner on a weekend evening. The restaurant was fully chockablock with the wedding taking up 8-9 tables at the end partially partitioned from the front half while there was a 60th birthday. While the place was noisy and buzzing, that’s a typical sign of a good restaurant. However, it was the dirty and oily utensils and table napkins that reduced some stars rating for us. This was the first time our friends had to wash and disinfect all the chopsticks, cups and kids cutleries with hot chinese tea in a bowl in Australia, a practise we regularly do in Malaysia. Nevertheless all the fine cuisine were delicious, from the succulent Peking ducks to the fresh lobster yee mee, crabs and steam fish. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious cuisine despite the initial hiccups, and the waitstaff tried their bests to keep up with a clearly hectic night. They also proactively offered take away containers for us with leftover so they don’t go to waste.
