Hoodburger Northbridge: A Greasy Delight in Perth's Cultural Hub
Look, I'm not gonna lie – I stumbled into Hoodburger Northbridge at 1 AM after a few too many pints at The Bird. But let me tell you, those burgers hit the spot like nothing else.
Tucked away in a narrow shopfront on William Street, Hoodburger doesn't look like much from the outside. But step inside, and you're hit with the intoxicating smell of grilling beef and frying chips. The place was buzzing, even at that ungodly hour, with a mix of late-night revelers and hungry hospitality workers fresh off their shifts.
I went for their signature double cheeseburger, and holy moly, it was a thing of beauty. Two perfectly smashed patties, crispy on the edges and juicy in the middle, smothered in melted American cheese. The bun was soft yet sturdy enough to hold up to the meaty onslaught. A smear of their "hood sauce" (don't ask what's in it, just enjoy) and some crunchy pickles rounded out the flavor bomb.
My mate, feeling adventurous, opted for the "Chicken Confidential" – a massive fried chicken burger topped with bacon and ranch. He practically inhaled it, so I'm guessing it was pretty damn good too.
The chips were exactly what you want at 1 AM – crispy, salty, and plentiful. We also grabbed a serve of their loaded fries, which were piled high with cheese sauce, bacon bits, and jalapeños. Probably unnecessary, but hey, go big or go home, right?
Now, I'm not saying Hoodburger is gourmet cuisine. It's greasy, indulgent, and probably took a year off my life. But sometimes, that's exactly what you need. The staff were friendly despite the late hour and the chaos of the Friday night crowd.
One word of warning – seating is limited, so you might end up perched on a stool or leaning against a wall. But honestly, these burgers are best enjoyed standing up anyway, grease dripping down your chin as you devour them.
Prices are reasonable for what you get. Our feast for two, including loaded fries, set us back about $50. Not cheap, but not outrageous for late-night eats in Northbridge.
Would I eat here every day? God no, my arteries would revolt. But for those nights when you need a solid feed to soak up the booze or cure a case of the munchies, Hoodburger Northbridge hits the spot. Just make sure you grab extra napkins – you're...
Read moreI came here with my girlfriends because we had burgers on our minds but my favourite burger place: the Royals in Northbridge, has closed down recently. This place was a bit of a gamble for us and Oh God was it a severe miscalculation coming here!
Here we were working our way through pretty middling burgers, which is not necessarily a crime in and of itself. I get that it isn't exactly fine dining but I was hoping for something at least less sad than a MacDonald's burger. The fact the food was unimpressive stopped mattering however when I was struck by the realisation that there was a large metal shard in my mouth! I spit it out and it looks almost exactly like the broken off head of a scalpel, it was the length of my thumbnail and it was seconds away from going down my throat. I showed it to the team behind the counter and they confirmed it was a broken off piece of some equipment at the frying station. After this our appetites vanished. We got our refund and we packed up and left. This food court is a pocket of Northbridge I am less familiar with and was eager to explore, but I'm getting strong signs not to come here again.
The only things I came out of this restaurant happy with was: A: That I didn't die or end up hospitalised B: That I got my refund C: And that it was me who copped the shard and not my company or some poor little kid.
I have eaten from places all over Northbridge from The Perth Chinatown to Tosaka Ramen to South Bird. I have eaten at some places not among these examples that I did not enjoy or find worth my money, but this place really takes the cake as THE VERY LAST place I'll ever be returning to. This establishment owes its future customers the basic courtesy of replacing and maintaining their equipment more regularly considering their tools are literally coming apart and ending up in their food. Bafflingly...
Read moreHoodburger has to be one of my favourite places in Perth to grab a burger. I always order the cheeseburger with fries and have never been disappointed. The portion of fries is beyond generous and I never finished all of them but hey, I’d rather have some left over than be left hungry. There’s also a great variety of sauces to compliment your fries or chicken tendies. Malt thickshakes are made fresh in store, which I also recommend trying! I appreciate the products specially imported from around the world which makes all the difference to the quality that Hoodburger brings to the table.
The staff are always friendly and smiling, and the overall vibes are great. It is clear how much compassion this burger joint has for its customers, with Polaroids of regulars pinned on the wall and staff making frequent conversation with patrons creating a great atmosphere. Being situated in the Old Shanghai Foodcourt, there’s always seating to be found and tables are cleaned often by workers of the foodcourt. You can get alcohol from the bar which is a short walk to the left of Hoodburger and is great for groups of friends.
I’d recommend Hoodburger to anyone who loves simple, tasty burgers, and is great for everyone from kids and families to adults. Thank you for always delivering quality food with a smile. Support local businesses and eat...
