I recently visited Old Shanghai in Northbridge and had a fantastic experience. This bustling food court is a vibrant hub of activity, offering a variety of delicious Asian cuisines under one roof. The atmosphere is lively and colourful, making it a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family.
The selection of food stalls is impressive, each offering its unique flavours and dishes. I opted for the Malaysian stall and ordered the laksa, which was absolutely delicious. The broth was rich and aromatic, with a perfect balance of spices. The portions were generous, and the ingredients were fresh and flavourful.
My dining companions tried dishes from the Thai and Japanese stalls, and they were equally pleased with their choices. The pad Thai was bursting with flavour, and the sushi was fresh and expertly prepared. One of the highlights of our visit was the dim sum from the Chinese stall – each bite was a delightful mix of textures and tastes, perfectly steamed and seasoned.
In addition to the fantastic food, Old Shanghai also features a bar that offers a great selection of drinks to complement your meal. We enjoyed a few cocktails that were both refreshing and well-made, adding to the overall dining experience.
The communal seating area is spacious and comfortable, allowing for a relaxed dining experience. Despite being busy, the service was quick and efficient, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Old Shanghai is a fantastic spot to enjoy a variety of tasty Asian dishes in a vibrant and casual setting. It’s a great place to experience different cuisines without breaking the bank. Read morePlace has been cleaned up significantly since last going there, they have renovated most of the shops however kept the same charm as how it use to be. A couple of the stores are empty making the place feel a little dull but there is an operating bar and the venues is licensed to sell and nicely you can order meals from any of the small resturants and still get a drink. Makes for quite a loud and vibrant Friday night venue with some interesting cuisine, however I found some of the places were a little less than authentic and sold fairly average food. The pricing was however quite cheap and you got what you would expect. I wouldn't not recommend taking more than 4 people as it might be tough to get seating in Thursday Friday Saturday but any other day is usually quiet chill. The bathroons have been updated and felt a lot nicer than you would expect for a food court of sorts. The whole place backs up onto China town and you can walk through the venue and out the rear towards the city if need be. The place has a real outdoors vibe and probably would be cool in winter. 1 star off for the...
Read moreDo not order mango sticky rice from Thai Coffee House that is operating within Old Shanghai food court. We ordered a bunch of items, all for take-away. It included 2 mango sticky rice. After payment, I requested a receipt. Then, I noticed there was an item called "Take Away" for $1 and it was charged twice without informing us. I asked the staff what the $1 take-away charge was for. She said it's for the paper take-away container and paper bag. I said this is not right because I wasn't informed about the extra charge and it wasn't on the menu and there was no sign posted on the stall. She said she will inform her boss about it. She didn't attempt to resolve the complaint.
Later at night, I started eating the mango sticky rice dessert and it was quite horrid. The mango was squishy and discoloured. The sticky rice wasn't fully cooked. The grains of rice were was some part hard and some part soft. Will not buy this again. Will not be supporting this business anymore because I do not support businesses who charge container fees for take-away foods without informing...
