The Meat & Wine Co is a famous steak restaurant that doesn’t need any introduction. Perth now has its Meat & Wine Co, situated at Perth’s historic Palace Hotel. It was also the place for Perth's oldest tavern. The restaurant is owned by Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group which has more than twenty restaurants around Australia, such as Ribs & Burgers, and Hunter & Barrel.
We started our dinner with tasty entrees. Wagyu Tartare has a significant portion, although I wish it has more flavour to it. Everyone liked the Szechuan Calamari, the batter was really crispy and full of character.
The Meat & Wine Co has its own premium line of beef called Monte. Their mission is to bring the best paddock to plate experience for its customers. I chose Shorthorn 350g New Yorker steak to be cooked in medium rare, and I also asked for two sauces: Hot African Chilli and Portuguese. My steak was perfectly cooked, and I was delighted with it. Angus Shorthorn cattle are grain-fed for 150 days with marbling 2+ and grazed on selected farms throughout Australia.
If you love the spicy flavour, then Hot African Chilli is a must try, but if you're looking for more than just spicy taste, Portuguese sauce combines a bit of spiciness and tanginess. Both are also great with their excellent chips.
We also tried something else other than beef! The salmon was cooked in fermented chilli, miso, sesame, soy, scallions, ginger, and garlic. You can choose whether you want it to be served with chips (yay!) or salad. This dish is definitely better as a sharing dish. Some people and I thought that it would be quite tedious for one person to eat the generous portion of salmon.
Our dessert platter is called the Grand Finale, with a serving suggestion of 3-5 people. It's a selection of Meat & Wine Co individual desserts: Chocolate & Hazelnut Fondant, Creme Brulee, Tiramisu, and Pineapple Pavlova. When in doubt, go with Choc & Hazelnut fondant, can't go wrong with chocolate! My favourite was the refreshing Pineapple Pavlova that comes with caramelised berries and passionfruit coulis.
The Meat & Wine Co has a couple of private rooms and a whisky room. As you enter the restaurant, you will see a private room on your right-hand side, a bar, and some seatings. If you turn right, there's a vast and opulent whisky room with beautiful interiors. Look up and check the beautiful ceilings while you're there. I wish I could see what used to be considered the most elegant hotel in the southern hemisphere.
I can't wait to go back and try other dishes such as Mac & Cheese with panko and Monterey Jack cheese, and the Shorthorn fillet. The price of steak starts from $29 for 200g Monte Rump Eye, but most are in between $39-$50. Wine & Co is a great place to have after work drinks and dinner and can be conveniently reached using...
Read more3.5 stars This South African restaurant is famous for good steak and aged beef. Recommended by my friends as they had a good aged beef. However, it couldn't be a must. Good beef by LUCK, unfortunately. My experience was like riding roller coaster - up & down. Venue: carpark at street or payable carpark nearby. Historic building with stylish decoration with "Abacus" partition screens. Good vibe. But, too noisy and hard to hear the background music or even the waitress's voice. Popular restaurant, so reservation is recommended. Not packed. Not a fine or romantic dining setting. --- 8/10 Service: Very good though very busy. My waitress was very nice and friendly. Tap water was provided after seated. The server cleared the crumbles after the entrees. Normal waiting time for food. Only she almost forgot dessert time for us. And, We needed to flag her to check. --- 8.7/10 Food & beverage: Children's menu, halal meat, and wine list are available. The presentation was good and tidy. Portions and prices are acceptable for entrees and desserts. Beef has more choices. Aged beef is the highlight but limited availability. The waitress told us that O'Connor Rib Eye and aged New Yorker that I wanted were not available. Aperitif Cocktail, Love Thy Lychee (non-alcoholic), $16: not worthy. No Lychee or flavor of Lychee. Mainly apple juice, Lyre's White cane and soda with very little passion fruit flavor. --- 5/10 ENTREES: Garlic Bread, $14: buttermilk buns with green garlic butter, garlic crisps, and Parmesan. Unique. Good for sharing. --- 9/10 Baked Scallop, $29/4pcs: well-cooked. Baked mushrooms beneath the Scallops. Delicious --- 8.5/10 MAINS: Wagyu Rib-Eye 300gm (Grain Fed 450+days, MB 6+), $135: asked for medium. Slightly overcooked. Creamy garlic sauce ($5) was too much and watery. The Wagyu steak had tough connective tissue that was inedible. The potato mash was creamy and buttery. --- 5/10 O'Connor Fillet 300gm (Grain Fed 240+days, MB 3+), $79: served with my choice of chips and Hot African chili sauce ($5). This thick fillet was burnt outside. Overcooked. I cut and ate as fast as possible. It became medium well done to well done. It's dry. Taste was bitter because I was eating charcoal. I couldn't finish the steak - 1/3 left. I was really upset and disappointed. A rip off. Sauce was too much and really very hot. The chips were good. --- 4/10 (because of chips) DESSERTS : Chocolate & Hazelnut Fondant, $18: I didn't see white chocolate but a lot of runny melted chocolate in the center. Not overly sweet. Ice cream was firm. --- 8.5/10 Creme Brulee, $16: served with a chocolate biscuit. Creme Brulee was...

The review reflects my personal experience and honest opinion. It's available on both Google and Instagram.
Before diving into my review, I want to give a big shout-out to Amy, the supervisor. There were a few hiccups during the evening (which I won’t go into detail about), but Amy handled everything swiftly and professionally, turning the night into a truly enjoyable experience. Thank you, Amy!
What I’ve always loved about The Meat & Wine Co is the consistency—you can visit any venue and know the standard will be the same. This particular location is set inside a beautiful 1896 building that’s been transformed into a warm and inviting dining space. The ambience is welcoming, spacious, and never feels cramped, with plenty of room between tables.
We started with the Bruschetta to share, topped with Roma tomato, avocado, oregano, basil, Parmesan, and served on sourdough. Fresh, vibrant, and full of flavour—everything you’d want from a classic bruschetta.
For my main, I decided to try something different and went with the Angus beef skewers, served with crispy chips and a creamy mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavour in every bite. The basting added a delicious depth, while the chips were crunchy, golden, and well-seasoned. You can tell that only fresh, quality ingredients are used here, and it makes all the difference.
To accompany my meal, I ordered a Mojito cocktail, which paired nicely with the richness of the beef. The dessert menu looked tempting, but the portions were so generous I’ll have to save that indulgence for another visit.
Yes, The Meat & Wine Co. is on the pricier side, but the quality of the food, the consistency, and the outstanding service always make it worth it.
I’ll definitely be back.
Tip: Book in advance! Even on a Sunday night, the venue was packed and people were being turned away. Also worth checking out is their Dining Rewards Club for extra perks.
