Sydney Fish Market is one of my favorite places to visit whenever I want really fresh seafood. Everything here looks and tastes very fresh, from the oysters and prawns to the sashimi and cooked dishes. You can tell the quality as soon as you take a bite. It’s a lively place with a lot of energy, and that also means there are usually big crowds. On weekends especially, it can be extremely busy, so if you prefer a calmer experience, I strongly recommend going on a weekday instead.

Another helpful tip is about timing. If you visit around 4:00 pm, close to their closing time, you will often see discounts as the stalls sell off the last of their stock. It’s a great chance to grab something delicious at a cheaper price. However, do keep in mind that some items may already be sold out by then, so it’s a bit of a trade-off between selection and savings.

For seating, I suggest avoiding the outdoor tables. Even though the view by the water is beautiful, the seagulls and ibis birds outside are very aggressive. They will swoop down quickly and try to steal your food, which can ruin the experience. Eating inside is much safer and more comfortable.

Overall, Sydney Fish Market is absolutely worth a visit. With fresh seafood, plenty of choices, and a lively atmosphere, it’s a must-see in Sydney. Just plan your visit wisely for the...

A friend has never been to the fishmarkets, so I offered a feast. Did a quick walk through. Bought some fresh sashimi. The usual.. kingfish, snapper, salmon, tuna, scallops and toothfish. Always good at the markets. He also wanted cooked food, so we went to the crowd at the fish market cafe. Bought a lot… grilled pack, salt and pepper squid, bbq octopus, barramundi, soft shell crab and half chilli lobster. I understand it’s the markets but all the tables were dirty and greasy, but we found a spot towards the back of cafe. All the food was just ok. Too much oil and heavy batter on the crab. The worst was the lobster 🦞. I understand it’s cooked twice and not fresh lobster but this was like rubber. Could not cut through with the wooden knife and fork and effort to get a taste. Dry rubbery seafood. I told the staff about the lobster and she did offer to give me something else but by then I was done. I just wanted them to know what they were dishing up. A tiny half lobster which I would not give to anyone I liked. If you go there, stick to the basics and don’t waste $29.50 on mini lobsters. Best part of the meal was the sashimi (which I bought from the shop...

As a local, I have patronized their establishment many times over the years without major complaints despite the high prices of their food, as the food were always tasted fresh and delicious. However, today's visit was quite disappointing.

To begin with, the grilled lobsters and steamed abalones didn't taste as fresh as usual. As seasoned seafood enthusiasts, we could immediately tell that either the seafood had been sitting for a while before being cooked or they had been left for too long after being cooked, resulting in a tough texture. Then the grilled octopus was a complete letdown in terms of being overly barbecued and poorly prepared - they had a sour taste, indicating that either the acid used for preparation was not washed off or the octopus itself was off. Additionally, they put all the little black-colored bits at the bottom, which is disgraceful. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, I was told that's how they cooked them...

I fear that if the business continues to operate like this, they will lose many local returning customers like myself, unless they believe they can thrive solely by taking advantage of...
