Today I bought at Nicholas Seafood. They had a special of Live Eastern Rock Lobster for $89.99 each which included cooking and noodles.

I was going to buy two and the sales girl told me that it was $89.99 per kg. They all around $1kg. She told me to buy the Southern Rock Lobster at $119.99kg (an up sell). It’s much tastier and todays special includes the noodles and cooking as well. Special today.

I said ok and bought the Southern Rock Lobster and paid $200.60. A little later my partner looked at the receipt and pointed out that we had been charged $20 for cooking. I thought it was a mistake.

When I went to advise of the error I was pushed aside and asked to wait and then made out that I “misheard” the sales girl. Only the noodles are free for this one.

Firstly I’m not stupid and I know what I was told. Don’t care about the $20 but as a Pyrmont local who regularly “shopped” at Nicholas’s, I will never go there again. You have lost me as a customer over $20.

As a side note I should mention that I also bought a dozen oysters and into our third oyster we found a big worm drop from an oyster. When I showed them I was told that this is quite normal and occasionally you find the worms on the outside of the shell. Not inside. I accepted this and went back without further complaint. Though it’s impossible to finish off the oysters after seeing a big wriggly worm come out.

And now thinking about it in the 1000s of oyster I have eaten over the years I have never come across a worm...

Horrible experience at Nicholas Seafood Traders, do not recommend anyone to go. Staff have very bad attitude and not willing to take any business. We ordered (and paid) from sashimi bar and were waiting for our order to be cut. We waited for around 10mins and saw our order just left at the side and being completely ignored by staff. We asked a few times, showed them our receipt and pointed to our order. Instead of getting help, staff just passed our order around to other staff and left our receipt at a random place. Here are some replies we got from the staff: "it's not yours" - after we showed our receipt "it's very busy tonight" - after we waited for 20 mins and saw many big orders being served "After I serve my customers". - after we asked when can we expect our order being done. Obviously we are not their customers based on this reply.

We have paid for our order as a normal customer, but we were given with no service and bad attitude. The only thing they did really fast was giving our money back. It is obvious to us that Nicholas Seafood Traders do not want any business and does not value their customers experience.

STRONGLY RECOMMEND ANYONE AVOID NICHOLAS...

I have been buying seafood from Nicholas in person for many years. I have to say, the staff there are lovely and helpful, the seafoods are fresh and the shop is clean. Due to COVID restrictions, I am unable to travel to the fish market and the only option I have is online order, which I am a bit skeptical (I am the sort of person that want to make sure "I buy what I see". Since it was my wife's birthday, I decided to bite the bullet and give online order a try. I ordered a live lobster and 2 mud crabs online from Nicolas. It came exactly on the date I want, and the lobster and mud crabs were in great (I did not weighed the lobster but I was pretty sure if exceeded the guaranteed size)! It even came with a postcard wishing my wife's birthday on my behalf. What a surprise! I have no hesitant in recommending Nicholas to my friends and I will surely order online again if COVID restrictions are still in place. Stay safe,...

A go-to for seafood. Includes tanks with fresh fish. ❗ Tourist secret: get your sashimi here! Go to the left and order salmon or tuna and just ask them to slice it for you. It's a great way to get a good price on ready-to-eat sashimi. 🍽️ Nicholas's has their own tables for food you buy with them, so that's handy in busy times when general seating gets competitive. 🦪 Someone is always shucking oysters out the front. They're delish, but their practice is to drain the liquid. If you want a real oyster experience, buy them whole and shuck them at home for the 'liquour'. You can buy an oyster knife at the kitchen shop out the back of the fish markets. 🚻 Follow signs for the fish markets toilet (they're not amazing) 🚘 Parking out the back, it can get crowded and pricey. 🚈 Easily accessible by light rail, the Wentworth Park light rail is equidistant compared to the Fish Market stop, and a nicer walk.

Whenever I crave for mud crab n sashimi, Nicholas is definitely my no.1 choice. Get the friendly staff to pick a nice n FIRM mud crab… ( female has the roe which is more buttery n sweeter which is normally what I would prefer, male crab is more meatier. ) , then I love the XO stir fried cooking method (extra charge. Cannot remember how much. Maybe $15? 😅) n E-fu Noodle is a must. They normally seperate the noodle and the crab. So first thing when I prepare the food is put the noodle in the crab container n mix up so the noodle will soak up the sauce while I’m eating the crab. 😎 The cost of the dish is half or even 1/3 of what I normally pay at the restaurant. If you spend $100 at Nicholas, they can validate the parking ticket for 1hr free I think. And $150 for the fancy ice bag if I remember it right. 😳 Grab a lettuce from the veg shop next door 😎 nice, healthy and cheap!

Food is decent, but the one employee that served me looked so annoyed just because I asked for one xl prawn and one tiger prawn. I asked if that was allowed. She nodded. So I continued ordering, walking over to the bugs and ordered 1. She looked annoyed again...so I stopped adding more to my order. Paid, ate, and left. Is it wrong to try a small portion of different varieties of seafood bevause there's so much choice to choose from? Maybe this employee was having a bad day, or maybe she hates working there, whatever not my problem. I went next door to Peter's Seafood and every single employee I talked to, was very friendly. I ordered a variety of sashimi and had a much better experience there. Sometimes it's not just the taste but customer service goes a long way.
