This dinner, hosted by Luke Mangan’s team and served on top of Sydney’s Pylon, is memorable for its location: the wow-inducing lookout that deserves way more attention than it gets. But ask me if I liked the food I’d have to say…. yeah-nah. I appreciate that (it being a popup restaurant) everything has to be brought in … or rather up. It can’t be easy to serve a three-course meal plus wine plus amuse bouches without a kitchen and where everything, including chairs and tables, has to be carried up the 200 steps to the top. Each and every one of the 50 nights a year they are allowed to operate.
I will also make allowances for the fact that it had been an extremely warm day, and so won’t make a fuss about the melted butter drenching the sourdough roll that had gone stale. But I would have expected at least some ice to counter the heat: warm champagne, even if it is a Penfolds x Thienot Brut Rose, is just not enjoyable. The dressing for the Kingfish Shasimi was overpowering and too onion-y. the Wagyu/Shimo beef was ok, but not so rave-worthy as to even mention it’s exclusiveness (normally only available outside Australia - so we were told), the desert was basically 4 different deserts that didn’t go together. But I will sing praises for the main’s sides: a lovely mushroom puree with asparagus and Madeira jus (sadly the jus being too runny for me - it didn’t stick to anything). The service was great, but again lacked the special something. For example, I would have liked to know a bit more about the wines that the food was paired with, particularly since the evening was Penfolds themed. All up this was not an experience I would recommend paying $345 per person for. Get yourself a ticket for $25 instead and visit The Pylon during the day. You will miss the sunset, but it’s still an awesome view over the Harbour, the Opera House and the...

We recently wined & dined at Luke's Table Sydney’s located on the lookout level of the south east Pylon of the iconic harbour bridge and WOW was it a night to remember.
Incredible Aussie chef Luke Mangan and his team welcomed us with canapés & rosé brut followed by an intimate sit down meal with a delicious three-course menu. This experience is a communal dining experience and we had amazing chats with fellow guests over a delicious three course meal. During courses we popped outside and enjoyed the most spectacular views of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge from the Pylon lookout.
Important to note: ✨ The dining experience is from 6-9pm ✨ When you arrive at the South-East Pylon you will be guided up over 200 steps to the Lookout level where you will find Luke’s Table. Bear in mind there is no lift. ✨ Reservations for Luke’s Table open 4-6 weeks prior and there are only 20 seats max. ✨ They cater to dietaries and allergens, I don’t eat red meat and had the most amazing seafood menu. ✨ Reservations for Luke’s Table open 4-6 weeks prior and there are only 20 seats max.

Read moreThis was simply incredible! The hospitality was perfect! Met by Luke and a glass of champagne. Only 20 Diners for a 3 course meal with iconic Penfolds wines to match. Considering the venue and lack of kitchen the food was superb. Each course was an incredible balance of flavours and textures.
It’s a long way up but worth every step. The views are incredible. Yes there’s a lot of over the top descriptive but Luke and his team, coupled with the venue and Vivid is a world...
