Let me start this review off by say that being a Restaurant Manager in the hotel industry myself I can be very critical of restaurants. The Gantry however, surpassed all expectations and has absolutely blown me away.
We were there to celebrate our 1000 day anniversary (cheesy I know) and straight from the get go did we feel we made rhe right choice in venue to share such a special occasion.
Beginning with the service received straight away from being greeted at the door with a genuine smile. We were welcomed at the table with a beautiful glass of champagne from the Restaurant Manager for our celebration. Once we sat down at out table our section waiter Liam greeted us and introduced himself to be serving us for the night. He was very helpful in recommendations and when he was unsure of something he apologised and sought the proper information from the appropriate team member, be it a wine recommendation or information about the food. I cannot stress how relaxed and comfortable it felt to have such a professional assist us for the evening.
We were interested in the set menu options however my partner has a seafood allergy and while they are able to substitute for non-seafood options we found it better to order off the A La Carte Menu instead. I ordered the Kingfish and Scallop and my partner ordered the Chicken Wing and Cold Cut as a starter. The chef, Dimitri, preceded to bring out extra options with wonderful selection of small dishes to start the evening off. It was a welcoming change to see Chefs so active in the guest experience FOH. I myself proceeded to go for a Sake to pair with the starters to which an excellent selection was made by the Restaurant Manager.
As an Entree we shared the Lions Mane Mushroom Rice with some Sourdough and butter (to which my partner absolutely loved. Some of the best butter we have had) along with a beautifully Paired Chardonnay.
For the main we shared the David Blackmore Wagyu Karubi Plate with a Paired Shiraz from the menu. Originally I was going to choose the Cab Sauv but upon asking some questions to the waiter (sorry I didn't get your name) he allowed me to try the Shiraz aswell as was his suggestion and a good choice it was. Without understating the steak was cooked to perfection and one of the best I have tasted out of sydney. (Rockpool and Firedoor who???) The accompanying salad paired very well with the flavours of the Blackmore.
Dessert was a beautiful Ginger and Fingerlime Sunday aswell as a special surprise brought out from the Chef.
I could not find a single fault in the entire experience for us tonight and I wish to extend my gratitude to each and everyone team member. The Gantry will forever be on my recommendation list for...

After being in lock down for quite some time, this was our first chance at restaurant dining and I was really excited to try this place out. My partner and I decided to celebrate our anniversary by having lunch here (dining out for the first time in 3 months) only to be disappointed by the service... we booked ahead and mentioned we would like to swap the dessert out because I didn't enjoy the chocolate flavour on offer. For $99 pp at a fine dining place, you'd expect this to be a reasonable request to enjoy your full 4 courses. Email confirmation said it was no problems, but it was a different story in person. I really enjoyed the menu except for the dessert. When it arrived on the table, it was chocolate covered, as described in the menu, and I told the waiter I had a special request to not have chocolate as my dessert. He looked very puzzled and took the dessert back to the kitchen to check whether my special request was received. He came back, flustered, whilst my partner's dessert was melting as we waited, and asked if I'd just like some cheese and crackers instead... I was very disappointed. I was looking forward to finishing off the experience with something sweet. So I declined and said I'll give the dessert a go, since there was at least some caramel ice cream on the side I could eat. He came back with the dessert, but the ice cream was missing! And then had to return to the kitchen again... my partner's dessert was half melted at that point. It was just not a very nice way to end our experience there. I wouldn't discourage anyone else from going, because we had a great time up until that point and the food was tasty, but they really dropped the ball at the end and we're not sure we will personally be...
Read moreHad lunch here today, after reading about it in Broadsheet. Online reviews were kind, and despite the steep prices I could see on their website, I jumped on the basis of the harbour views and the comments about the food. And to be fair, the food I ate was great, bar the fries, but more on that later. The problem with restaurants like this that operate out of well located hotels is something of a conundrum. The restaurant is part of a greater economic whole, and prices are routinely high to reflect this and the price of the prime real estate they live on. Grantry lives in this space. It's a great spot, at Pier One on the harbour, but it falls short of it's high prices. Two entrees of oysters and two mains (from a list of only five) and one modest bottle of wine from the short and expensive list made for a bill of 250 dollars. The food was very good, and the service friendly and attentive, but the value just isn't there. It's just good, not great. It's competent, but not remarkable, and it's the food that lets it down, or rather the quantity and the extras. At this price I want to see something more on my plate, not a tiny portion covering a quarter of it, served with tepid fries that would embarass McDonalds. It's simply too little for the money, given the literally hundreds of other choices nearby, many of which present a greater value proposition. It's a tough game, sure, especially now, but in terms of a review, it's just too far a stretch to recommend this. It's really for people staying in the hotel, that don't know better or don't care. Good, certainly, but just not good enough for the money. It's a one-timer from me, sorry. We left and walked up to the Harbour View Hotel for another wine, and...
