So happy to have a local vegan bakery open up! Giving 5 stars because I want to support vegan businesses, but also want to give the following feedback.
It's not clear where the line ends, and you are either pushing past people in the line to view the options, or moving out of the way while in the line so people can see. If you are not in the process of doing so already, I think making it clear to keep the line to the left of the counter could be an idea to consider.
There was also no description of what was on the toasties on the board, just names. I asked what was on the Big Momma and the girl serving me seemed either annoyed or surprised I'd asked and couldn't really tell me what was on it. I wouldn't get the BLT again as it had some strange dressing on it and alfalfa sprouts? I don't mind sprouts but if you're going to deviate from a classic with the same name, you should make it clear that the ingredients are different to the original (again, descriptions would avoid this being a future problem).
I think charging $3 to add some avocado to a toastie is pretty disappointing considering that an entire avocado costs $1.60 (and has cost this little for quite some time now). I appreciate the costs involved with running a cafe (and probably don't fully understand just how much goes into doing so, to be fair) but I cannot imagine how that price is justified. However if people are happy to pay it then it's more just a personal choice than a problem.
Finally, I ordered a Pain au Chocolat but when I got home I realised it wasn't like the rest that were on display. There was no chocolate or icing on top. Not sure if I was given the wrong thing but for some reason it looks very different to what I was looking at when I ordered it. Editing my review to add that I just tried it and seriously... WOW. 10/10 pastry.
That being said, I am really looking forward to trying more of the options and becoming a regular! I have never seen such a huge variety of vegan bakery options (seriously, even more than La Panella, and much fancier!) and feel very grateful to live walking distance from this shop. Congratulations to Sina and her team for finally making this happen despite all Covid-related setbacks. We vegans are very lucky and grateful.
Review updated to 3 stars after 4 months because the above feedback has not been taking onboard. We've given this place 5 tries since this review and the same issues still exist. Disappointing but nice to see the business being successful...
Read moreIncredible evening at Miss Sina’s Friday and Saturday night dinner venture Flour and Friends. I went with a friend to celebrate her birthday and both of us were extremely impressed!
We ordered the mushroom skewers with harissa and herb oil, the strawberry and heirloom tomato bruschetta and two serves of the fried zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and served with preserved lemon mayonnaise for starters. The strawberry and tomato bruschetta was an interesting combination which really worked, the pop of the sweet heirlooms with the sweet but slightly tart strawberries and creamy, tangy ricotta was a delight on the perfectly charred basil oil brushed homemade focaccia. The zucchini flowers were so incredible we had to order two serves, the batter was so crisp and the tender flowers were bursting with seriously the best ricotta I’ve ever had! The preserved lemon mayonnaise really made the batter sing with its creamy tang and pop of saltiness.
For mains we ordered the giant ravioli snail which was full of spinach and that same amazing ricotta. It was cooked perfectly al dente and the thick tomato sugo surrounding it brought a sweetness and freshness with its vibrant, rich tomato flavour.
We each got two desserts take away, I ordered the 24 layer Death By Chocolate Cake and the Hazelnut Tiramisu. Both were amazing, so well balanced with the perfect mix of richness, sweetness and earthy, nutty or deep cocoa notes.
Really enjoyed our time at Flour and Friends by Miss Sina. We each couldn’t pick a favourite dish and when I asked my dining companion what she’d rate the dishes she said all 10/10, which is testament to the quality of the food.
Service was also great. The staff really worked hard to make sure everything was in order and that customers were happy. They were friendly and attentive and also helpful. Can’t wait to go back to try...
Read moreWas really excited to go here but had an unfortunate experience. We came and ordered around 12.50 and food didn't come out until 1.40 but that would've been relatively okay if the food was exceptional... or if the hygiene was up to par. Sadly this was not the case - our table was not cleared from the previous patron but the waiters walked past multiple times cleaning other peoples tables and making eye contact with us. We sat there with dirty napkins and glasses until our food finally arrived and we had to instruct the waiter to clean our table as he was about to walk away. There were 5 staff on and the owner was around too so I'm not sure why things were such a mess. What I found concerning mainly was that another guy (possibly staff or another owner as he was walking around behind the counter) came in with a small very cute dog - but then let one of the waiters/staff pat and play with the dog which wouldn't have been an issue but the staff member went back to unpacking clean coffee mugs from the dishwasher without washing his hands. There was also a really horrible smell wafting through from the backdoor area but luckily it was only occasionally and not the whole time but it smelt like wet mouldy garbage. When the food came out it was okay but overly seasoned with chilli and had absolutely no salt or other flavouring.
Overall a really disappointing visit as we were super excited to be here since we've heard amazing things about the food and also had Miss Sina cakes at parties before. This review isn't to deter anyone from going here but I really would hope to see better hygiene standards and wait times with more...
