Oliver Brown — Restaurant in Sydney

As a group of five, we arrived here at 9:30pm on a Saturday evening for desert. Service very ordinary. Crepes were ordinary. Churros were undercooked . Apparently, the waffles were ok. Hot chocolate as usual was great. But the biggest gripe for the evening from all of us, was that we were TOLD that we'd be served our orders in take-away containers, at the table. We were taken by surprise and very unhappy about this and should have just walked out but because we were all looking forward to our deserts, we stayed, ate and drunk out of takeaway containers. It made it much less enjoyable trying to cut through crepes etc. in cardboard containers with bamboo knifes and forks. I understand they want to finish up their shifts on time and it may seem insignificant, but we didn't believe this to be good service, it felt like they were preparing us to finish our food in 15 mins (by the time we were given the food and drinks) or pack it up half way through and eat the rest outside somewhere (which was probably the intention anyhow). Don't want to go back here again, even if it's well before 9:30pm.

Here's and idea! - Why don't they sacrifice the extra business by closing at 9:30pm and using the extra half hour for the staff to clean up. Or even better, pay the staff an extra 30 mins after...

I have spent the last 4 years using this place as a study spot. I know for a fact that I have spent hundreds here over the years. Yet, I get treated with no respect- approached and given a menu and told I need to order something (when I already had). I said that I had ordered something and she questioned me, implying I was lying, when I offered to show her my receipt as proof, she backed down. I will not be coming back here. Sad because it is the only cafe open late in Hornsby. Please understand that whether you like it or not, a large part of your demographic is students- and yes, we will buy a minimal amount of things and stay a decent amount of time. However, what is the harm in this? You rudely told me and my friend to order something when the store was half empty at 7:30pm- Am I somehow not a valued customer? Why am I, a regular, being treated like this? There is a man who sits there much longer than me, and I never see him order any more than I do, yet he isn't treated with blatant disrespect...

Dine in with take away boxes for our waffles. No apologies or explanation from staff.

Ordered and paid for 2 separate waffles, but they put it in one box/plate and expect me and my wife to eat together. Why would you assume that we wanted to share from the same box/plate? If 2 person ordered the same steak in a restaurant, do you put 2 steaks on the same plate and expect the customer to share? Ridiculous!

The waffles that we had used to be served with seasonal fruits like strawberries, and we got none. Ask the waitress why was it different? She didn’t say a word and took it away and came back 2 minutes later with a single pea size strawberry (singular). What a joke!

With all the above, I rate my experience today with just one star. We are trying to support local businesses through this pandemic and many are struggling. Please DO NOT take it for granted that customers will continue to come. Consumers...
