Rivareno Gelato Parramatta — Restaurant in Sydney

I’m a huge gelato fan. I know every single gelato place in Sydney. A friend of mine decided to bring me here to try the gelato. I have seen this place but never really felt compelled enough to try. My first time at this gelato place today and I was clueless with the flavours and menu. The customer service was disappointing. Hardly any queue and the person didn’t greet, didn’t offer recommendations. There’s no passion in this place selling gelato. I decided to try some flavours and when I requested for a third sample I was told they only allow max 2 tries! No where in the store it was mentioned there’s a max of 2 tries! Very strange indeed. First time I’m hearing this in a gelato shop. I tried hazelnut and arabica coffee flavours - both didn’t taste right. My overall experience wasn’t great. The scoops are small, too expensive and very slimy. Certainly tried better gelato out there. Wouldn’t bother going all the way to Parramatta for sub standard flavours and service, for premium price.

Some days their gelato is ok, most days it’s below-par gelato and tonight I was met with a horrendous customer service experience.

Went in today 9 Feb with one of my mates at around 9:20PM-9:35PM to get some gelato and was met with a terrible customer service experience from one of the ladies working there. She seemed excited to end her shift tonight and unenthused by her work at the store. When I asked to try two new flavours. Neither was a preference but as I requested politely to try another flavour the lady responded curtly with “No, you can only try two.”

I was shocked because I knew coming to Rivareno that you could try at least 3 flavours, and in past interactions and when I say past, like just days ago.

Safe to say that if you are in the Parramatta locale, make your way to Messina on church street and you’ll get significantly better customer service and mostly better gelato. If you want to get authentic gelato head to Marrickville and Enmore and there’s a bunch of places where you can get your...

Ordered an ice-cream cake with cremino rivareno outer layer and pistachio inner layer. Delicious and as creamy as how the gelatos are served fresh from the shop! Decorated with some nuts, hazelnut sauce and they can do a small amount of writing on the cake too! Next time I would probably choose a more chocolatey inner ice cream because pistachio was a bit salty and did not really pair well with the cremino flavour (though usually the pistachio is an amazing flavour by itself from them!). I often come here for a scoop or two as well. Some flavours themselves can be hit and miss but when they are good, they are VERY good. My favourites being all the ones with chocolate, hazelnut, peanut butter. Not a big fan of the Contessa, sesame flavours and found the sorbets to be overwhelmingly sweet but could be a personal preference? Staff are friendly too :) thank you for the lovely cake and will definitely recommend my friends to get quality gelato cakes...
