Epoch Café – WA Museum Café Review
I visited Epoch Café at the WA Museum around 2pm and left disappointed. We tried to order chips and pork buns but were told the kitchen was already closed – at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. So we only got the pork buns.
We also ordered an English breakfast tea, which was served in a polystyrene cup. Even the milk came in its own little polystyrene cup. For a café attached to such a beautiful, modern museum, it felt cheap and out of place. No proper mug, no tray, nothing resembling a decent café experience.
To top it off, we were told we had to leave in 15 minutes. No warning when we ordered. Just drink it and get out.
This café feels like an afterthought – rushed service, poor presentation, and early closing hours. The museum deserves better. So do the visitors.
It was lunch when we arrived at the museum so we had something to eat before we went into the museum. I loved how you went into one shop to order and directly opposite that shop was the seating. The food was great, I enjoyed my Salt and Pepper Squid which was well presented. I asked for milk for my English breakfast tea but never got it. There were a few tables that needed to be cleared, and some were not wiped down. There was only one person waiting on all the tables. Not a good look. Maybe they need to have a minimum of 2 people waiting on tables all the time. It is such a lovely Cafe only to be ruined by...
Read moreI arrived at 3:05, so 25 minutes before they closed, they didn't let me sit as they closed the sitting area already. They package takeaway in a way that you can not take away as they give a carton open plate that they put in a paper bag and they put those on top of each other so you are balancing away with 2-3 open bag that cannot be closed and stuff can fall out. Instead of a small meat pie next to my sausage roll, I got another sausage roll, when I took it back as I saw when I found a place to sit they gave me a small pie but didn't take the 2nd sausage roll back saying that as it was out they cannot take it back. She said I could keep it she won't charge me for it, like she would do me a favor. When I said I could not eat this much, she encouraged me to throw it away, and when I said I don't throw away food as there are people starving, she said she could throw it away for me.... when I complained about the packaging, she said that they could not use plastic bags, like that would be the only way to package takeaway better.... the food is really good but the service .... even with having to go back to exchange food and need to find place again to sit outside l, I finished my food and drink by 3:25... don't close sitting area 30min early. That I'd just outrageous maybe 5-10min but this type of food can be finished even during...
Read moreYumCha Sunday event $60 per person to sit outside ther restaurant in a plastic tent in the rain, in the middle of winter. Let me set the scene for this dining experience: If you're not freezing to death from the icey wind blowing into the tent (waitress confirmed no heaters would be provided), you're trying to dodge rogue pigeons from trying to land on your head that have become stuck INSIDE said tent. Why is there a tent at all you may ask yourself when there is a perfectly fine restaurant inside.
Food was absolutely horrible, and we left before the final course. You can expect to ration napkins and soy sauce because it wasn't adequately supplied- notably you're sharing this with strangers because despite booking a table for two you're seated on a long table squashed between strangers like a school cafeteria, to the point where you'll likely have someone's sleeve in your plate as they reach across to share your tea pot. It's taken me a good week to recover from that morning enough to write a review.
