The experience was overall quite terrible. First of all, we had to wait for someone to seat us at a free table, but it took the service at least 5 minutes to do so, although plenty of them were empty. The food was also an immensely disappointing experience: the "faschiertes laibchen" felt like an overcooked, oversalted mess of an unfinished product, with dried onions that are usually used as an intermediate ingredient in cooking. The potato purée appeared to have a crust from all the times it was reheated. What proved to be even more unsatisfactory was the fact that every single meal we ordered looked and tasted like industrial food that you could find in the nearest store almost anywhere in austria: the pasta, which is claimed to be homemade, the same taste as dry industrial pasta. The gulasch seemed nothing more than the canned gulasch at your local billa market. For this quality, the price was extravagantly high and not nearly deserving enough of the money. The service didn't help with the disastrous experience either, since most of the waiters barely even paid attention to us, and clearly gave the impression of just wanting us to leave as soon as possible so other customers could arrive. The ladies bathroom was very dirty, with no toilet paper and no soap. Lastly, the waiter informed us that we could leave a tip on the credit card machine, which we refused to give, and after we asked for the receipt we had to wait another 5 minutes. What was worse is that he made absolutely no effort to hide the fact that he was upset by us not tipping him (putting the things for new customers on the table very loudly and aggressively, as well as the receipt, clearly wanting us to leave). All this is truly a shame since the place is very nice, but we will unfortunately not be...

Well done - I must congratulate you on the achievement that your duty manager waiting our table takes the award for rudest table service I’ve experienced in my life.

I recall we did nothing to upset the gentleman, tried our best to speak German and were still subject to his obvious loathing and malcontent for tourists in an industry that is propped up by them. Wanting to bite the hand that feeds you whilst serving them food is a new low.

The two main offences towards our father, who speaks reasonable German, as he’s been coming to Europe from the UK on business trips for years were bizarre. He asked the waiter whilst ordering in German about a particular fish he didn’t know the translation of, quite a niche fish like red snapper, to which the disdainful response was “well done, you know now two words of German” - I would maybe feel inclined to take linguistic observations off you, had your English been grammatically correct… alas, it was found wanting. My dear fellow, how about we perhaps all teach you a different two words of English to describe yourself? Our father is rather mild and meek so brushed it off but it was the behaviour becoming of a prat.

Secondly, at the end of the meal the waiter automatically selected no tip for our table then proceeded to say aloud for no other reason than his own enjoyment “English people don’t tip”… A correction perhaps, for your stereotypical assumptions? “English people don’t tip bad service”

Maybe worth it if the food was spectacular, but sadly, it was not. The time from ordering the food took to arrive at the table also left me contemplating my life decisions. It was my first time trying Sulzberger Nockerl though, so thank you for the memories of associating subpar soufflé with subpar table service...

Very very bad experience, so disappointed!

I visited this place on 02.01.2025 with my family for dinner. We previously visited also a few more times, we remember that the food was good (even though it is hard to find a table during summer time).

My brother ordered a coke and it was really bad. It was no acid, no gas, it came in a glass, without any bottle or can. After that I asked the waiter to get a coke with a bottle because this one is not good. At that moment we were 100% shocked with the attitude. The waiter (the brunette one with very bad German accent) told us that it is not their problem and it is our problem if we don’t like it. The argument took sooooo long, as each waiter who leaves our table sent another waiter to take care of us, and they were also arguing with us. A few times they left the table even without we finish our sentences, they barely listened us. At some point I was actually nervous that the temperature was increasing and it could escalate more.

I cannot mention all the disrespectful comments and behavior, as this comment would be so long, but seriously after a long day of family trip, our evening ended SO DISSAPOINTING. I really don’t recommend, if you are giving importance to a friendly staff. If we talking about the food: schnitzel, kaiserschmarrn and the beer was good.

I really hope this restaurant can give importance to the quality of the service and the attitude of their stuff. We don’t plan to visit ever again. You can also see the other comments, who share the same...

We really enjoyed our lunch here - having been recommended this restaurant by a few friends! It’s a great place for traditional Austrian food with a rustic interior. We got the schnitzels, the grandmother soup (which is vegetarian, despite its name), and the bratwurst. We wanted to try Mozart’s favourite dish, as it’s apparently a specialty here in Salzburg, but we weren’t big fans of liver. The schnitzel was well breaded and went well with the sauce. It came with potatoes that were well cooked but slightly bland - it went very well with the grandmother soup though. I finished every last drop of that soup - it was on the more sour and tangy side, and I was the only one in my group who liked it. The bratwurst and Sachertorte were decent too. Service was excellent - quite unusual for what we were expecting from Austria, if I’m being honest. All the service staff were so friendly and they were always smiling and so on the ball. Our drinks were refilled really quickly and our additional orders were taken really quickly too! I’d recommend this place just for the service actually - the wonderful service team really made the dining experience here even better. We paid with credit card, and WCs were available (on the upper floor, requires stairs) and well maintained. Overall - traditional place with above average food, VERY good service! I wouldn’t hesitate to come back, and I strongly recommend it!

- Nice inn with hearty local dishes. Today’s pumpkin cream soup :D Seasonal. Just what I missed a few days ago. It hits the balance between smoothness and pumpkin texture. Savory-sweet and not heavily creamed. Bread croutons add crunchiness and turn into marshmallow. The soup is really soothing after a long morning going through the museum quarter. - Baked liver smells very good (reminding me of falafels somehow). It’s crunchy outside and burst into gamy and spiced flavors— Can someone tell me what kind of animal is used here, lamb or beef liver? (🤔 Now I kind of want to try making it one day. The lady at the bar isn’t cannot explain in English, Orr maybe even in German. Wikipedia says beef, but I’ve seen Austrian family recipes using mixtures and even venison.) Sauerkraut is decent, tangy and soft and balances the more salty liver balls. It probably contains half a kilo cabbage, a more efficient alternative to salad. - Everything in the menu sounds fun and nice. I wish I have more stomachs. While oxtail and goulash are recommended by the menu and reviewers, I decided to try something I can’t make and more unique in this restaurant. (Those who got goulash as daily soup are lucky:) - Allocated to my own little corner with a view of the bar. Feeling cozy and safe. - Somehow the male manager and staff are all quite buffed but they are friendly people, despite much reticence and lack of English.
