This fountain can be found in the Residenzplatz public square in the Old Town of Salzburg. Said to be the largest fountain in the city, it's a baroque and sea themed fountain.

The fountain contains four groups of sculptures. At the lowest basin stands is four sculptures of seahorses, galloping out of the waves, each spewing out a jet of water from their mouths. Above the seahorses are two men, perhaps a pair of Atlas, bearing the weight of another basin on their mighty shoulders. Above the two men is a smaller bowl supported by three dolphins. And finally, topping off the fountain is a sculpture of Triton, the Greek god of the sea spitting out water from a conch.

A lovely fountain in a lovely...

Residenzbrunnen is the biggest Baroque fountain of Central Europe. It was built between 1656 and 1661

The base of the marble fountain is carved with four sea horses that surround a central rock covered in marine animals & plants. This rock carries four men that in turn carry a bowl with three dolphins. The final level has a bowl in which Triton is holding the snail shell.

This famous fountain is featured in the Hollywood movie The...

The Residence Fountain is 15 meters high and the largest baroque fountain outside Italy. It was built between 1658 and 1661, possibly by Italian artist Tommaso di Garona, and is made of marble from the Untersberg, a mountain near Salzburg. Its water-spouting horses reached world fame thanks to their appearance in the movie. Maria stopped at the fountain to splash water at the horses while singing “I have confidence”.

Residenzbrunnen, 1661 by Tommaso di Garona This fountain features four snorting horses emerging from the rock, giants supporting the lower basin, and three dolphins balancing the upper scalloped basin. At the top, a Triton shoots water from his conch-shell trumpet. Commissioned by Archbishop Guidobald Thun, this fountain is considered one of the biggest Baroque fountains outside of Italy.
