Nice restaurant with some friendly and helpful team members. Bread and saucisson “for the table” snacks were great. The speciality burger was delicious but my pepper steak was fairly average - a bit chewy - and I would have liked it to be served with some kind of garnish. The chocolate mousse dessert was excellent and came with a birthday candle which we appreciated. The shape of the wine glasses was a bit disappointing for such a premium hotel/restaurant. I would have preferred a long stemmed glass. We had booked a table to celebrate a family birthday and wanted to have drinks first on the rooftop bar so we got there early but the burly bouncer in reception wasn’t letting anyone up in the lift as he said it was full. We asked if there was a wait list but apparently not. After our dinner (10:30pm) in Bouvier, we asked the staff there if we could go up to the rooftop for a drink. They contacted staff upstairs on our behalf and we were told that there was no space for us. We were at the Hoxton from 6:15-10:30pm and never succeeded in getting to the rooftop bar. I get that they have a walk-in only policy, but surely they could operate a wait-list for guests. We had drinks before dinner in the lobby bar which was quite busy. We ordered glasses of rosé fizz and were served disappointingly small measures - with one glass significantly less filled than another. We pointed this out to the team member and to be fair to him, he came by later and gave us another small measure on the house. There seems to be a lot of buzz about this place, and it’s not inexpensive but they need to be consistent in delivering a high standard of service to guests. We were left a bit disappointed having come here to...
Read moreI had my birthday dinner here a few weeks ago, and the team at Bouvier surpassed every expectation of mine.
Organizing a birthday dinner with 19 people is no easy feast, and it is rare to find a restaurant like Bouvier that is so open and accommodating toward large groups. Jasmin from the F&B team was in touch with me months before the dinner, confirming every detail with me - from the seating chart to the menu and wine selection - and ensuring the birthday dinner would be exactly how I imagined it. The day before the dinner, she took the time to meet with me on site and go through all the details again.
When it comes to the dinner itself, Mustapha and his team did an incredible service. They were efficient, friendly, and fun. I would like to particularly thank them for closing the restaurant later just for us. The food was excellent too, and the portions were very big.
However, what I liked most of all is how at home and welcomed we felt in this restaurant. The staff was very tolerant to people switching places during the dinner and walking around - just like at someone’s home. This made the experience feel very unique for me, and unlike many other restaurants where group dinners can feel overly stiff or formal.
Thank you again for everything, dear Bouvier team, and I highly recommend this restaurant for your dinners and...
Read moreA bit disappointing. We checked in and were here the day before for brunch and it was lovely and pleasant with good service and the food was hot and fresh.
Today we went for dinner and the experience was completely different. To start we were not given a drinks menu so had to grab one ourselves after we were seated. We then ordered two glasses of wine, fried olives and oysters Rockefeller to start, and XL hash cake and green beans for main.
The wine turned up within 5 minutes, but after around 30 minutes no food had arrived, and we were then told that the XL hash cake takes longer to cook and that everything will arrive shortly.
Our wine was finished before anything turned up, and no water or tip up drink offered. The fried olives were hot, flavourful and very good, the green beans were also great, but the hash cake was cold throughout and oily on the underside. We checked with the waiter if it was meant to be (after being told the reason for the wait was because it needed be cooked) and he said it was meant to be like that.
The oysters Rockefeller then turned up 15 minutes later, and didn’t appear to have any breadcrumbs and appeared to be mostly sauce, but were at least hot and cooked.
Overall, unfortunately it seems to be a different experience depending on who’s on staff serving and in...
