Theory: When you inquire with the ticket office beforehand, they assure you that the concert halls are indeed well air conditioned. The online subscription brochure even features an ad from the local Verbund electric company in which they brag about their modern air conditioning systems in the Konzerthaus.

Reality: During the very warm evening of June 12, 2019, those alleged air conditioning systems were clearly not operational. Temperatures were above 30 degrees C (86 degrees F) both inside and out and the humidity was very high. Audience members were fanning themselves with their programs and more than a few chose to leave after sweating profusely through the opening. Especially for the elderly and unfit obese, the risk of heat stroke was very real.

Advice: Avoid the Wiener Konzerthaus when it's hot outside. Doubt any and all claims that the concert halls are well air conditioned.

Otherwise: The Wiener Konzerthaus is...

The building is quite dated and bland looking inside. We were forced to leave our coats in the cloakroom due to some ridiculous policy. What is even more ridiculous is that we were forced to pay almost 2 Euros to leave the coats there. And we attended the concert, shivering, because it was cold in the room. The staff was not particularly polite. The concert attendees were rather pedestrian not knowing when to clap and some of them kept talking over the music without any kind of respect for others. We overheard some people asking the staff where they could get popcorn! Popcorn at a classical music concert! No comments! The musicians, the ballet dancers and singers were...

We bought two tickets with €185, eventually we went there the staff told us we have to deposit our jackets then. We didn’t expect in 21st-century they were charging €3.40 and not accepting cards cash only… while I only have card available with me, so I went outside to the ATM to withdraw money but the ATM is totally broken. Then I went back to the staff asking her if she can let me in since we already bought the tickets. They were rude like no jacket allowed then we had to quit our concerts just because of this 3 euros cash availability for my stupid jacket. This is so crazy insane and bad...

Beautiful venue, amazing acoustics, but we were sat in the gallery and there was a huge amount of steps to get up there. There is one lift, but you can't access it from the ground floor, so if you've got gallery tickets, you can't use it. Also, the pitch of the seats is very low so if you're at the top and sat behind a tall person (as I was), your view may be obstructed.

I really enjoyed the 9th Symphony of Beethoven in the Konzerthaus. This beautiful and traditional music theatre is a must for any person living in Austria or a visitor to Vienna. The acustic, the architecture, the space, design and decoration will make that you have a unforgettable experience. Do not miss it!

Jazzben is jó a Konzerthaus!
