tl;dr - The service should be better, and smoking should be forbidden, as their sticker says.
We have arrived there around 19:30 in the evening, and were first amazed of the huge selection of cocktails and drinks RundBar was offering. It took a while for the waiter to approach us, but eventually we have ordered our first round of drinks, and before the waiter took away the menus, we stated we would like to order food. It was probably only in our heads, or maybe it was the sound of the wooden menus on the table - but it felt as if the waiter was hurling the menus back on the table.
When the drinks arrived, we have ordered various of dishes to eat - although the food descriptions might be a bit brief, the food itself was very delicious, creative and interesting. We have tried 3 different dishes and they were all good. The cook seems to be very proud of his work (and he should be!), as he came and explained us about every dish.
After finishing eating, we were waiting for quite long, but none of the waiters came to empty the table, nor to ask us if we would like a second round of drinks, until we managed to catch their attention.
Around 22:30 we noticed the smell of smoking, which was odd for us - before we saw everyone going outside to smoke. At about that time, people have started to smoke inside all over the restaurant. We have approached the waiter and he explained that it is allowed to smoke inside after 22h. We expressed our discomfort about it, and asked for the bill.
Unfortunately, the laws in Austria are still different than the EU laws until 2018, when it will be forbidden to smoke in closed locations. Until then, every restaurant which its size does not exceed a certain area, can choose whether they are smoking or non-smoking. The latter also gets benefits and financial support from the country. A hybrid creature of being non-smoking but smoking from a certain hour, does not exist and is illegal. When we tried to express our discomfort to the manager, instead of hearing us out, she was acting rather aggressively.
Nevertheless, we still hope to see an improvement in the service, the behavior, and the habits of the people in this bar, in order to enjoy a visit...
Read moreA small and cosy place offers imaginative cocktails and food with some sidewalk seating. We had the quite good and unusual Oaxaca Old Fashioned (with tequila and mescal along with agave syrup and a dose of Angostura bitters) and good if more conventional gin martinis and Aperol spritzers. The wine list is limited but adequate for the food menu. The food is as imaginative as the cocktails. A highlight was what they call âchicharron pork bitesâ, not chicharrones as we have come to know them in Mexico but rather deep-fried meaty chunks of uncured pork belly. The other tapas we hadâfried calamari and grilled octopusâwere good as well. The guacamole was good but the serving portion was about half what we expected. We probably will return for a pre-heuriger dose of the pork bites to prepare for all the greener veltliner we will end...
Read moreAfter having dinner I went with my husband to âDie Rundbarâ and literally had one of the most unfriendly experiences I ever had in Vienna. Ordered a bottle of âSprudlaâ because I really love it. The waitress, careless from the moment we got in, simply placed the bottle at the table âdiyâ style and could not bother to let us taste what we ordered. Iâm a dark skinned person and in her eyes maybe she might have taught, I do not know a thing about the gastro business, too bad for her. Iâm incredibly disappointed by the kind of service I got at die Rundbar tonight. Thereâs always place for friendliness and when I mentioned she was being âinattentiveâ she said, she was too busy and we were not the only ones.
For better or for worse I wont be visiting this bar for a while.
Someone please get this person some...
