We were disappointed by our experience at Everybody’s Darling, as it didn’t reflect the high standards we associate with Alex Kumptner from his TV appearances. We visited on a Friday at 6 PM without a reservation. While I understand that arriving without a booking limits seating options, we were surprised to see that only three tables were occupied, with the rest displaying ‘reserved’ signs. The only available seats were at the bar, which we accepted.
What was most disheartening was that, despite being there for two hours, three of the reserved tables remained empty the entire time. This made us feel undervalued as guests. We would have gladly moved back to the bar if those tables had eventually been claimed, but there was no effort from the staff to make us feel more welcome or prioritized.
We ordered the ceviche, beef tartare, and roast beef brioche—all of which were decent. The cocktails, particularly the Old Cuban and Everybody’s Darling, were excellent. However, even though there were four or five staff members behind the bar, they seemed more interested in chatting among themselves than in attending to guests. While our water glasses were regularly refilled, our empty drink glasses were overlooked, and not once were we asked if we wanted to order anything more—an oversight, especially since beverages are a key revenue driver.
One aspect that further detracted from our experience was the presence of a group of ‘regulars’ at the first table, partially blocking the entrance. One of the bartenders seemed to be friends with this group and joined them for three shots and at least two vodka lemon drinks during our visit. While camaraderie is fine, it felt unprofessional and out of place in an establishment known for its elevated dining and ambiance, especially given the prices and the reputation associated with Alex Kumptner’s name.
Overall, while we were excited about our visit, this experience fell short of expectations. It’s unfortunate, and based on what we encountered, it’s unlikely we’ll be...
Read moreOne more time I witnessed how lack of being customer friendly can be Austrians in the middle of Vienna, most liveable city they say, all is a lie I believe. I was about to order my 3rd drink(prosecco, don’t think that it was a heavy alcohol influence) till the unfriendly waitress came and warn me to take away the small bottle standing on the table which by the way belongs to my $62 million water company in California, USA, I don’t need your advertisement, It was there because we were chatting about the bottle with my husband and of course I drink my own water, so what !?. It was in my hand before going to that places, and put it on the table, than it was an important topic with my husband to discuss while we are in a nice vacation environment. Should I need that warning, excuse me !? I could put the Kiels shampoo which I bought 500 m away from their place on the table, I could put my iphone, my bag etc. when you enter a bag shop, to buy a bag with your own bag, do they warn you not to carry any other bag inside their shop !!??!!?? Btw since I can’t drink any alchocol without having a small snack like nuts, small appretives etc, I asked to the same waitress to bring some snacks, and the answer was “yes we have kitchen for proper food orderings, not for snacks but you can have olives”. Anyways thats the problem of the owner and the kitchen menu… But the problem here is, I can put on the table whatever I want which belongs to me and the employees are no right to warn me about this small details since I would like to enjoy my day, my drink, maybe order more and help them to earn more money to have proper salaries. But typical viennese reaction it was. No customer service at all. And other waiter was hating his job most probably. Too much body language he was using when you irder plus something. Good luck to the owner with his team. I will not recommend the place...
