As we visited Vienna with friends, to complete the city trip, I had to show them the full Leberkäse-experience in a real institution. Leberkas-Pepi here offers 12 different varieties, from classics (normal or cheese, for example) to special stuff like with truffle seasoning. The quality is good and the bread rolls are good enough as well. You can have different toppings or condiments like mustards or ketchup, or you can have different kinds of pickles. My favourite combination is cheese-Leberkas with some pickled peppers, very tasty! If you don't take your food as take-away, it gets served on a porcellain plate. As this is very close to the opera, so very centrally, you can often spot people fully dressed in expensive suits enjoying their Leberkäse here, which makes for a great (and potentially unexpected) sight. There are some other food options as well like sausage or even burgers but I have not tried them (and unlikely I ever will, to be honest). Prices have risen over the years, currently it's about €3,50 for a Leberkäsesemmel, which I find reasonable for the quality. If you don't know this place yet, I can really recommend it, it's a welcome experience!

Perfect! We were looking for a quick bite between museum visits and got more than we bargained for here — friendly staff, super-quick service, and a delicious and authentic Viennese meal! We didn’t know what we were getting into, but the staff were friendly and answered our questions patiently. I don’t eat mammalian meat, so was pleased that there was a turkey option! My husband does and enjoyed the opportunity to sample the horse-meat option! Meats are sold by weight, but our dude expertly sliced off a 100g portion. This place is small and it got crowded when a tour group came in after us, but things turn over quickly here. We’d go again!

Had a great experience. The employee was very helpful and made the ordering really easy even for us who don’t speak German and haven’t had this kind of sandwich before. The meat was very flavorful and tender. Not dry at all. We got the pizza flavor and the onion flavor, my husband liked how there was pockets of cheese in the pizza one and enjoyed the combination pizza flavor. The onion one was equally good and we ate them super quick. Reasonable price for a filling, quick, meal. I would come again! (This place takes credit card and cash). With two sandwiches and a Coke, our total came out to just over 11 euro. Not bad!

I recently visited Leberkas‑Pepi on Operngasse in Vienna and was genuinely impressed. This small counter‑service spot, tucked just steps from the opera, specializes in leberkäse sandwiches—a hearty Austrian meatloaf comfort food.

I sampled the classic leberkäse and the chili‑cheese variant. Each was packed with juicy, flavorful meat, served in a fresh, crusty roll. A cold draft beer paired perfectly with the rich sandwich, and the combo felt like a satisfying meal under €10. Depending on the flavor, there are over a dozen types to choose from—from truffle to vegetarian options—so you can try something new each visit.

The service was friendly and efficient, and the staff helpful even during peak hours. It was a casual, lively spot with a mix of locals and opera-goers stopping by for a quick bite .

Seating is limited—mostly standing room and a few interior spots—but that just adds to the charm. It’s fast, authentic, and genuinely Viennese.

Leberkas‑Pepi is ideal for anyone craving traditional Austrian snacks on the go. I’ll definitely be back to try more varieties of...
