This would have to be the most insane classical music concert I’ve ever attended. The playing was excellent, and the venue, the Golden Hall, was a wonderful experience. The musicians in period costume was a nice touch, and the conductor was brilliant, doing his best to give everyone a good time. But the rest of it was a bizarre experience. Even just getting to your seat required long queues with few instructions, and people being constantly ordered out of line to the cloak room to battle an uncontrolled scrum of people waving at the harried attendants to drop off coats, bags, just about anything no matter how small. Once that was negotiated it didn’t improve as bus loads of tourists turned up with few having any having any clue what was happening and little direction. (We saw scores of them posing for pictures while waving tickets in front of posters that had nothing to do with the concert they were attending). The entire performance was a battle between the coach tourists constantly trying to take selfies and surreptitiously record the orchestra, while the ushers roamed the floor trying to stop them. The music was good, but the organisation of the arrivals, cloak room and seating badly needs...
Read moreGreat experience (a bit corny but super fun). We got mid tier seats in one of the boxes. There was a group sitting near us that were on their phones the whole time and even recording the performance (which is not allowed), they were clearly there only for the instagram shots and were obviously bored (checking emails, and pictures on their phone THE WHOLE TIME 😂). One lady even did a video chat during intermission 🫠- they even brought out snacks and ate in this beautiful old theater. This was a group of full grown adults! I was tempted to tell them that they could continue if they could actually name the current composition being played. They rest of us in the box told them several times to stop their rude behavior, but their sense of entitlement got the best of them. Some people should just stay at home. Anyways, I recommend this event (hopefully you won’t end up sitting next to a group of ill...
Read moreA truly sublime experience. Since I was a little kid I dreamt of walking though this sacred hall of music. I can't easily express how I was after the concert. Amazing rendition by the orchestra and the singers. Beautiful programm with a superb rendition to the best of Mozart and to top it of with The Danube and the Radetzky march while all the hall accompanying like in the new year concert which I watch every year. Thanks for making it possible for me to achieve my childhood dream of listening to Strauss, Mozart and clapping through the Radetzky March it was glorious. The only negative was some audience members, it is true that this is more tailored to tourists but people should just listen and turn off the damn phones and listen to this otherworldly music in such impressive music hall.. Thanks for finishing my visit to Vienna with...
