Authentic Italian dinner for two in Vienna!
The restaurant was suggested by a bunch of our friends. On Friday evening, we arrived there at 22:45 and were immediately greeted by friendly Giovanni himself and incredible aroma of baking pizza. Although, the place is closed at 23:00, Giovanni was kind to let us stay and dine as long as needed.
We parked ourselves at the table by the window with cute flower in a vase. There were also two groups of people in the room, but it didn’t bother us at all. The ambiance was private and comfy.
The order was taken by Giovanni himself. He provided us with great details about the meals, so we took two glasses of white wine and two pizzas: Quattro Formaggi and Prosciutto e Funghi. The wine appeared to be ideal starter for pizza we ordered. Simple and accurate taste. When our pizzas arrived, our expectations continued to be exceeded. The crust was crisp, flavorful, and chewy. The toppings worked together beautifully. The sauce and ham were packed with flavor, and the mozzarella had a great consistency. By the end of the meal we were planning our next visit.
Long story short, the place is perfect for romantic dinner in Italian way. Giovanni is extremely pleasant person and magnificent chef;) We had a great evening) Highly...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this restaurant while walking and were excited to give it a try. In many ways, it didn’t disappoint—the atmosphere was cozy, the music was lovely, and the food was truly delicious. However, despite these positives, our overall experience was overshadowed by the service.
When we arrived, we were the first guests in the restaurant, yet we didn’t feel particularly welcome. As the evening went on and more groups arrived, we understood that the staff was under pressure—there were only two people handling both the kitchen and service. However, what was disappointing was the attitude (of the man who was running it/working there).
After finishing our main courses, which we thoroughly enjoyed, we wanted to order dessert, only to be met with a curt "Überhaupt nicht" (meaning "Absolutely not") and the explanation that they were just two people. While we completely understand the challenges of running a restaurant or just working short-staffed—how customers are treated makes all the difference. A simple, polite explanation would have gone a long way in leaving us with a better impression.
I truly hope this feedback is taken constructively because the food and ambiance are wonderful. With a bit more warmth and hospitality, this place could be an...
Read moreI am a New Yorker and the grandson of Italian immigrants, so I have typically strong opinions about pizza. I am also (regrettably) sensitive to gluten. Finding good gluten-free pizza is always a struggle, particularly when I am traveling and have a hankering only pizza can cure. It was therefore a wonderful occurrence that I came upon this establishment mere steps from where I was staying. These folks will make any of their many pizzas gluten-free for you, and reader, let me know tell you, they make some of the best gluten-free pizza I have ever had. If you suffer from the same affliction I do, you know the key to good GF pizza is the crust, and Da Giovanni clearly uses high-quality Italian flour (I've come across it only a few times) along with Vienna's famously delicious water. The end result is a crust that seems almost too good to be gluten-free. The sauce, cheese, and toppings were also excellent and met my very high New Yorker standards. Top marks for the pizza.
My spouse ordered the branzino, and that was very enjoyable as well. The service was good, the decor is fun, and the overall experience is more than worthy of 5 stars. I can't recommend this place more highly if you're in Vienna and just absolutely need to have some...
