The traditional Austrian meal was definitely the most hyper part of the evening: the mashed potatoes were mind-blowingly smooth and creamy, and I greatly enjoyed my Sirloin steak; the goose liver with cranberry sauce presented in the form of a creme brulee was casually average, and the schnitzel, while being nothing to scoff at, also hadn't made any memorable impressions. The unfortunate part came in the form of the service. Beginning with a chaotic search for someone to talk to regarding our reservation and getting re-directed three times, followed by a laid-off but somewhat distant catering, the finishing touch was the constant twenty-minute pause between every inquiry we had. While we managed to share the foie-gras and have a glass of wine each within the first hour, with our mains following closely behind, the second hour and a half was spent completely trying to get the dessert to our table. As we asked for a repeat regarding the wine before our mains came, I was determined to enjoy my proteins with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Surprisingly, the next fifteen minutes of mine were spent drilling holes into the back of the waiter’s head and my steak chilling in the open before we could ask about the wine again. Afterward, it was ten minutes of trying to catch any waiter’s eyes to ask for the dessert card. Another ten minutes passed before we obtained it. Twenty-five minutes later we acquired the mouth-watering sorbets and about five minutes after finishing them we finally got the Turkish coffee. Hilariously enough, the bill came with no delays. The overall atmosphere was very inviting and welcoming thanks to the open green-furnished outdoor seating and a fleeting summer evening spent at a somewhat right place. I do whish the service had been slightly more attentive and sharp in terms of timing and hospitality, but the offered menu managed to preserve the aftertaste of the dinner in flattering and optimistic tones.

My husband and I have been visiting Vienna for the past week and have had a wonderful experience here in this pristine beautiful city! On our last night Plachuttas Gasthaus was recommended to us by our concierge at the Ritz Carlton so we decided this would be a good ending to our time here in Vienna. Upon ordering our dinner I asked our waiter for menu recommendations; he had a bit of an attitude when I asked him what kind of fish “Zander” is on the menu and , I was wondering if it was a white fish. He responded with, “it’s a fish that swims in water” and then stopped talking in a very passive aggressive way… it was very rude and I didn’t appreciate him speaking to me in that tone. He brought our salads out… it was a salad nothing special, a bread basket and wine that was just ok. I ordered the Hungarian Goulash, it was quite possibly the worst meal I have ever had in my lifetime of traveling around the world as a professional chef of 20 years. The sauce was gloopy, thick and had no flavor. It was a basic tomato base with lots of paprika and beef base poured over fatty beef chunks that were overcooked, dry and stringy. Not sure what the round flavorless pieces were? Possible attempt to make polenta? It was just 100% bad. A very expensive disappointing meal served by a rude young man. Not a good ending to my experience in Vienna but do not dismay… there were many great people with a warm heart and really good meals to be had in this pristine city, JUST KEEP WALKING PAST; Plachuttas Gasthaus Zur Oper and you are sure to find a restaurant that will make your trip memorable! Cheers!

Can’t WAIT to put this review on right after my meal - first the service was fine, but then they have a compulsory charge for bread - and I didn’t take it cause I don’t eat bread. And they still charge it. Fine, when it comes to the food, it’s really not worth 19.6€ for a plain Schnitzel with half a lemon and some cold potato.. they called it potato ‘salad’ but there’s no veggies. Ok, still fine, when it comes to the bill they still charge me €2.3 for the ‘bread’ (i didn’t take it and they took it back at last) - the service was alright but not really good- it was €27.5 for a single person which is definitely EXPENSIVE comparing to the price in Vienna. And the waiter told me tip is not included but I really don’t find anything good in the service that I can give them tips - they were even quite cocky when I sad the food is alright but not great (they said ‘THIS SHOULD BE THE BEST IN VIENNA’ and I just smile cause there’s definitely something better or as good out there...) finally I left my 50 cents together with my small changes but then cause of the big amount of small changes he said ‘REALLY MADAM? THIS IS NOT FUNNY. YOU CAN KEEP THEM.’ I don’t think it’s funny, I am just giving you tips when I don’t really want to PLUS you charged me the €2.3 for non existent bread. I rather find that the waiter is funny because he is easily offended by my small change lol. I just left it on the table and left the restaurant. I’m never used to giving tips as it’s not the culture in the place where I’m from, plus the service doesn’t make me want to give tips... Never again of course :)

The only nice point of this place is the food, which is good. But the service is so terribly disrespectful that the food tasted badly afterwards. The waiter that served us was super rude. At first, he brought us couvert (bread and butter basically) and I said we did not wanted it. He then became very defensive saying that he did not agree with but even if we didn’t have the bread on the table we would have to pay for it. First red flag I guess for a place that obliges you to pay for something you are not going to consume. We then ordered our food, which was a schnitzel to share, as we have done so in another place. When the food arrived, the same waiter stood behind our table and started making fun of us for some reason, pointing at our table and laughing with a colleague. My sister then proceeded to ask him what was the problem, he said he was just finding it funny how many schnitzels he sold that day. A place that is famous for serving schnitzel, indeed very funny. He then left us for eating, but at this point the food that looked good already tasted like disappointment. The table by our side also faced rudeness of the waiter. At the end at least he didn’t even have the courage to ask for tip or apologize. Terrible experience and had to pay two couvert for something we did not eat. If you want good schnitzel and good traditional food in Vienna, I recommend going somewhere else where the service is better, like Figlmüller (where the waiter was extremely nice to us and the food was very good) - also where they won’t oblige you to pay for couvert.

Wonderfully consistent and friendly high-end Viennese restaurant! One of 2 centrally located Plachutta restaurants and if you prefer your restaurants with a more modern feel, this is the better choice for you. The interior is light and bright during the day and cosy but contemporary in the evening. The menu is not enormous but there are at least 15 to 20 main courses to choose from and the quality of the ingredients makes for excellent dining. This is what sets Plachutta apart from a myriad of other restaurants in the city centre serving a similar menu. Their meat is exemplary and this quality is what you are paying for (though the menu if very fairly priced). The desserts are also always excellent. Their choice of beers and wines is great too. All in all this is a very solid Austrian owned and operated restaurant with a great menu, offering great quality and perhaps most importantly of all, friendly but efficient wait staff. One of our favourites for many years now.
