Can't say enough good things about our experience here. Selected the place based on a recommendation from our cab driver and were greeted warmly at the door by Captain Ron. He in turn introduced us to the "4th best waitress" (Monica? sorry if I'm messing up your name) who became SUPERSTAR to us and was just fantastic. Definitely deserves a promotion to at least 2nd best waitress.
With the curfew going on the Fish Fry places all have to close early so given we arrived around 7 we had to hurry with our selections. Superstar recommended the grilled combo, and as other people have commented it is a LOT of food so share! One order was plenty for two people. You can get the platter cooked several different ways (grill, blackened, foil, and something else) but her description of the foil grilled option (her favorite) just sounded amazing so we went for that. It takes all the ingredients (lobster, conch, fish), adds some vegetables, broth and spices and it's cooked to PERFECTION. I couldn't stop eating it. You also get 3 sides and the mixed veggies, rice and beans (peas?), and plantains we selected were just fantastic. We went to NOBU (also great) the night before coming here and I would pick Curly's over them if I had to make a choice.
We also had a Conch salad (ceviche) which came from next door. They do have their own version I believe but evidently the restaurants will happily outsource depending on local supply. I can't speak for the Curly version but the one we got was OUTSTANDING! A little bit on the spicy side for me but perfect for my girlfriend. The conch was plentiful and fresh, and it was so good we got another order to take back with us to snack on when we left.
The area is a mix of locals and tourists - so it was great seeing everyone enjoying the food and the area. I wish we had more time to look around but by the time we were done (just after 8) we had to hop in our ride to get back before the curfew (9) and give time for the driver to get home too. Definitely on my list of places to return.
Do yourself a favor and stop by Curly's for a...
Read moreThis is the second restaurant I visit during my stay at Bahamas. I know many people gave Curlyâs great reviews but our experience was different. Perhaps the dishes we ordered were not their best representation but overall food was not good at all. We started with the conch fritters which were ok not bad but nothing special either. I ordered the curry chicken with plantains, rice and peas and mixed vegetables. The chicken was only wings, and the flavor was just off. The plantains were plain and the rice was just ok, the mixed vegetables is like a coleslaw with no mayo. I think it had some vinegar at least a vinegar smell. Husband ordered jerk chicken with same sides as me and his chicken was super salty. It was like you just put regular bbq sauce to the boiled chicken with extra salt. My son ordered a curlyâs burguer and his burguer was the most flavorful of anything we ordered however the fries had no salt at all. My daughter had chicken fingers which were bland no flavor at all. The good things from the place is that at the entrance they have a sink were you can wash your hands, and the guy at the front was friendly. Once inside the place is dark and service was ok, they do take some time to get your food but in our case it was nothing too bad. Total we paid 83dlls so their prices are lower than other restaurants nearby however I would rather pay extra and have food that...
Read moreLetâs start with Roxie who was standing near the front entrance. This young man is the consummate salesperson. My wife and I was actually going to another restaurant that got rave reviews from a local resident. But, Roxie sold us on why we should choose Curlyâs over all the other players in the Fish Fryâ corridor, including the other âFish Fryâ restaurant around the corner. Then there is that old neighborhood âhole-in-the-wallâ ambience. Now, the food, see the pics. We started with an order of Conch Fritters. They were crunchy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth tasty on the inside. My wifeâs plate included grilled Red Snapper, pigeon peas and rice, steamed carrots and cabbage, and coke slaw. I enjoyed fried conch (first time). I usually select steamed conch in a butter garlic/hot sauce. I also chose pigeon peas with rice and baked Mac and cheese. I completed my plate with the most delicious plantains. We washed our meals down with a homemade fruit punch and lemonade whose recipes youâre unlikely to find posted anywhere. The ladies who served us were A-1. Finally, as we were eating we noticed pictures on the wall of Curly (the owner) and Guy Fieri. Who can...
