What a conceit. It began with a head waiter with whom one at our table of 8 must have had a bad experience in a prior life as this man was a horror. He began by paying no attention to us and then was aggressive and argumentative.
We were seated in "the kitchen" which would have been fine but for one of the cooks who, every 15 minutes, had to whisk something in a metal bowl for a very long time and make a terrible noise. This was annoying. You'd be better off in the quite beautiful Art Nouveau dining room.
We couldn't get a wine list but immediately after we placed our order, our head waiter came with dessert menus. One of our group asked how he would know how he felt about dessert before he ate dinner. RESPONSE: "then you'll just have to wait" and flounced off.
That was the tone of what was supposed to be a terrific evening.
Another of our group summed it up this way......."terrible service, limited menu, very expensive and a wine list with outrageous prices".
Four of us ordered duck. 2 of us shared a medium rare duck that was served beautifully but was hard to chew. When we were finished, our waiter returned with a second helping that he threw on our plates. 2 of us shared a more well done duck that came under-cooked. Our waiter, unhappily, brought it back to the kitchen where someone must have seared the slices for a minute. Both reported that it wasn't to their liking.
We left before dessert and coffee as we were all disappointed.......... and for 800 euros, why be disappointed and angry. We wound up in the lobby of our hotel having espresso before going to bed.
Having read a dozen reviews of this restaurant, I realize that our experience was out of profile. Hopefully, management will read this review and figure out what happened to us. Clearly, it's not the experience they set out to produce. What a shame. So far, this is the only time we've encountered "attitude" in Brussels.......and we've been here almost a week and we've eaten in terrific restaurants as you can tell if you...
