I couldn't face yet another chain hotel in Brussels so decided to go for comfort, location and cosiness for a 2 day stay. It's like staying at a friends house, cute room and a spotless bathroom. Lovely clean bedding, breakfast by room service. Secure wifi and good range of tv stations. Bathroom had shampoo/shower gel and soap plus a full size hairdryer. I was prepared for the noisy street due to the location, but it died down after 11pm. Woke up a couple of times in early morning due to noisy people outside, but otherwise v quiet at night. Not sure how this would be in summer as there is no air con but it was warm and toasty during very cold nights.||||The staircase is VERY narrow, literally the width of your shoulders. So not suitable if you have mobility issues. ||||It's seriously easy to access via metro, just a short walk and follow the signs for the Manneken Pis. It's diagonally across from the statue. If you're traveling by Eurostar then catch any line 3 or 4 metro train that's going towards Gare du Nord and get off at Bourse (3rd stop). There's an Irish O'Reilly's pub outside the Bourse metro entrance, you might find it easier to use this in Google Maps to find your way back there as the streets are very old...
Read moreMy wife and I spent a couple of nights at the Vielle Lanterne while passing through Brussels on our way to Germany. It has lots of plus points but just sufficient minuses not quite to reach 4 dots. On the plus side it is very close to the Grand Place (the reason we chose it in the first place), warm, comfortable and clean and with good wi-fi and, in our room at least, an excellent shower. The lady who owns it (and the gift shop over which it is located) and her staff were very helpful but that can't detract from the fact that the six rooms are spread over three floors with access by a fairly tight spiral staircase and, despite their best efforts, we were unable to make even half decent tea because the only milk was UHT. Highly recommended if you are younger and fitter than us and don't need tea to get you started in the morning but older readers and tea addicts might want to...
Read moreSituated on the 3 floors above a shop.|There is only 6 rooms - 2 on each floor.||This is right next to the Mannequin Pis landmark and a 3 minute walk from Grand Place so a great central location.||Room is clean and tidy - has a fair size toilet / shower room. Wardrobe with a safe. Small fridge. Fan and TV.||Great views of the mannequin pis from the window. ||There is a key code door to get in once the shop is closed.||Can order breakfast the day before to be served in your room but we didn’t bother as thought it was quite pricey. ||Only downside - if you have mobility problems, this probably isn’t the best place for you - there isn’t a lift. We were on the top floor which entails 3 lots of marble spiral staircase - they are quite tight and 16 stairs in each (yes, I counted several times!) ||Other than that, would recommend. We...
