Epiphany's Kitchen in Ghent seems like the ideal place for a romantic first date: it offers plenty of time for conversation and a sense of opulence.
This statement is made with some sarcasm, as our experience at Epiphany's Kitchen was a mixture of highs and lows.
The starters were a true testament to original and delicious dishes, presenting an array of flavours that tantalised the taste buds. However, the main course, while decent, didn't quite reach the extraordinary heights set by the starters. Given the hefty price tag, overall value for money seemed lacking, especially when compared to other similarly targeted restaurants we've been to which offer more satisfying flavours at a lower cost.
Taste is subjective, so I wouldn't write a bad review just because we didn't like the food as much, even if it was expensive, but the biggest disappointment was the length of the meal. Our dinner lasted almost three hours, forcing us to stay even after the restaurant officially closed. The courteous staff couldn't be faulted for providing attentive service throughout, despite the long wait between courses, which was largely due to the slow pace of the kitchen.
We still really like the concept of the restaurant, which offers intriguing vegan dishes with the option of incorporating non-vegan elements such as cheese or meat, otherwise we would not have chosen to go there. The welcoming atmosphere added to the overall appeal. Sadly, however, the prices and long waiting times make me reluctant to visit Epiphany's Kitchen again. I would caution others to plan their evening accordingly if they choose to dine there, ensuring that they have plenty of time to enjoy the leisurely...
Read moreOur waitress made us feel so welcome, it was as if she'd known us all our lives. I watched her assist a person in a wheelchair, going above and beyond to make sure they had a smooth experience. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, too. A true professional.
The restaurant is stunning, it's like stepping into a fairytale. Everywhere you look has a point of interest, even the ceiling is fun to look at. I liked the candle holders the most.
The menu is trendy. We had three starters that were meant to be shared: puff pastries filled with chili sin carne, purple moscovite potatoes with herring roe, and lightly blanched veggies with a cheesy dipping sauce. The potato dish was especially delicate. We cleaned out the cheese bowl.
Then we had spicy peanut "pasta". We picked the sweet potato pasta replacement. It was so good I forgot to take a picture :)
Mascarpone and chocolate cake desserts were our favourite. The sabayon was a little too sour for my tastes, but that was a case of personal preference.
Service was slow in places, due to unforeseen popularity and an injury in the kitchen. We didn't mind, we had a great time and didn't want to leave.
We couldn't finish one of the pasta dishes and they let us take it home with us. The bathrooms are...
Read moreLike OMG. This place is so good. I had the best experience. The food is DELICIOUS and everything is GLUTEN FREE. The concept is a sharing one and it’s worth it honestly. I took the lunch menu, meaning the soupe with a choice of a pizza or pasta. Twas a mushroom soupe with an exquisite taste and mesmerizing texture. Very yummy twas a bit hot but yum. They were so nice they offered us rice chips and yuca bread on the house. Like what are these?!! These are super yummy. The chips crispy and salty texture tasted very well and the yuca bread was so good with the soupe. After that the pizza came and my heart melted with it. Presentation was like WOW. Very artsy, colorful. I was with my friend so i tasted two pizzas. And let me tell you they were both really really good. I like the Arabian night pizza and Django. Both are super good, taste, temperature, texture… the ingredients were so fresh. And also tasted my friend’s pasta dish was very good as well. Very light. And the portions are fair. Not too much not too little. Very fair in my opinion. Next time i’ll make sure to get the tasting menu for 2. And the staff were so kind and friendly. I highly recommend this place. A bit expensive...
