Restaurant Neptune — Restaurant in Ghent

Stopped by here on a work trip. Average moules after 50 minutes wait. The staff mixed up the order but couldn’t care less. Plenty of other options around, suggest you try them. I’ve come to Belgium a lot and probably the worst service I’ve ever had. Everybody makes mistakes, but ignoring that fact is not good. We asked whether the two small beers could be taken off the bill as compensation but no deal. It’s in a good location so I suppose that means they don’t have to care. Realise this sounds like a classic disgruntled customer review, but if you read my others on here or TA you’ll see I’m usually positive! UPDATE: did eventually get the beers taken off after a lengthy debate with the manager, which didn’t exactly improve the experience! How much did those beers...

Fish soup was memorable and one of my favorite bites in my short 3 day 2 night trip to Ghent. Came here based on proximity to my hotel and google reviews mentioning this soup. The broth is so flavorful - made with shrimp shells. The fish and veggies are aplenty - more like a stew. Had I know the reality of the single portion I wouldn’t have ordered an entree.

Shrimp croquette was fine. Too mushy for me but good flavors.

Service was excellent from a young man wearing a cool Krusty the Clown hoodie - he was so kind and sweet. The mostly covered outdoor dining area was fine but I would have preferred to sit inside - next time. They were packed!

Disappointing. My partner enjoyed his Gentse Waterzooi and the manager was very charming when we booked. My steak & mushroom sauce was ok though not much flavour. The disappointment came after our plates were taken away. We were not offered a menu for pudding, no one came back to the table or looked in our direction for the next 20 minutes or so. In the end we got up, put our coats on and went to the counter to pay.
