$98 AYCE Lobster & Crab Review After watching the Instagram Vlog about the $98 AYCE lobster & crab promo, we decided to give Neptune a try during their promo opening night. To our surprise, the restaurant was only 1/4 full on the promo opening night. We had high hopes for this place and their AYCE promo as the Vlog portrayed a table full of various crab and lobster dishes. They gave us a piece of paper to order the various dishes including the crab and lobster dishes which we were supposed to write the quantity on but they forgot to give us a pen to write. Despite the restaurant being empty, flagging someone to get a pen/pencil was difficult but we finally managed to get the attention of staff and received a pencil. There were 4 of us so we ordered 4 lobster and 3 crab dishes and handed in our order sheet. The manager then came to our table and said that we could only order 4 dishes to start and reminded us that we only have 1.5 hour to eat and last call would be on the 1 hour mark. Then the wait begins. The first plate of lobster came out after we waited for 20 minutes and the next 2 came within 10 minutes later. Thinking that the food took a while to prepare, we put another 4 orders of various lobster and crab dishes hoping that the next batch would arrive by the time we finished what we had in front of us. Well, that didn't happen. We finished our food and waited...and waited. Finally, the 2nd order arrived close to the 1 hour mark. Next thing we know, it was time to place our last call. The male manager (guy in suit and tie) was very obnoxious and eager to get us out of there. He told us that we had to leave when our 1.5 hour is up. We told him that it wasn't our fault that the food took a long time to come out. Plus, there was no one waiting for a table and the place was empty. We ended having to get into an argument with him and we weren't the only ones. The table next to us also didn't have a good experience. I think they placed their last call order but their order got cancelled without them knowing. Overall, the experience was disappointing. When you pay $98 per person for a meal, you expect a good and timely service to come along with the awesome food. This did not happen. The wait staff were great but the manager need some serious customer service retraining. We even had to argue to order 2 small bowl of dessert at the end. This is too bad for them because we had lots of friends who were looking forward to come to this AYCE promo. Oh, one more thing. The crabs and lobster that they served were small ones and each dish came with tons of carbs. For $100 per person, you can probably get more food by eating a la carte at good and less fancy Chinese restaurant...and you won't get an obnoxious manager trying to boot you out of the restaurant. For those of you who are planning to try this AYCE promo...be forewarned. If you come when this place is packed...then good luck...

Another Neptune afternoon…

I think this is the only Neptune I haven’t been to yet? Anyways, in the area taking care of some business so decided to try this location out.

It’s located on the front side of Coquitlam Center and facing the new Cactus Club, plentiful of parking is available up front in the malls parking lot.

Inside is separated into to section; Neptune Wonton for fast casual dishes and Neptune Seafood for more of a formal dining. It’s kind of a smaller place and pretty basic to me.

Anyways, here were the dim sum I ordered;

Seafood dumpling in soup. The imitation crab being used made the broth a bit overly sweet, was too unpleasant to finish it. Steamed spicy beef tripe. It wasn’t tender enough, needed to steam it a bit longer. Steamed chicken feet with special sauce. It wasn’t tender enough for the skin to fall off the bone, needed to run through the deep fryer a bit longer during the prep process. Turnip cake with XO sauce. It’s almost a joke, my 10 year old nephew could’ve done better with this dish especially its presentation. Failed! Baked preserved egg and ginger pastry. Absolutely horrible, the preserved egg was rubbery and the whole pastry crumbled along with its ginger paste. Failed! Fried vegetables with shrimp paste. An alternate version of the deep fried eggplant with shrimp paste. It was so so. Baked bbq pork buns. It was okay, the bbq pork could be less sweet. Purple rice roll with fish paste. It was okay, the super jumbo size was unexpected. Stir fry udon with live lobster. Surprisingly it was pretty good, enough wok hay to really bring out the flavours. Little white rabbit pudding. Not bad, cute little treats.

Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with the layout and atmosphere of the restaurant. It portray itself as a mid class Chinese seafood restaurant, but felt l like a simple family restaurant with mid level prices.

The service was okay, enough to satisfy the basics, don’t expect anything more than that.

As for the food, honestly it was probably one of the most disappointing experience I had so far out of all the Neptunes I’ve been to.

Not a repeat or recommendation from me anytime...

I don't like when they gave me a look and not sincere apology for their mistake on Monday evening and it's not busy at all . If you want to know why, read below.

My family and I went here twice. The first time when they were newly opened. We ordered dim sum and they were okay but a bit pricy. I always go to the other places for dim sum.

Today I went to the restaurant as the second time because my mom was craving for dim sum, so we decided to come here. We got the dinner menu and ordered 2- course Pekking, Jelly Fish, Chicken Knee, Salt &Pepper Squid, Sui Mai, Ha Gao and Xiao Long Bao.

At the beginning, a server/manager, David, came to our table and I asked him about 2-course Pekking duck. He explained to me and I told him that I want that 2-course. I repeated 2 times.

After that the another server came and as me if I want dim sum and I said YES! I didn't get the menu and I didn't know that they still serve some of dim sum menu during dinner. David didn't even tell me when he seated me at the table.

We're one of the two table in the restaurant. While we're eating, other tables got all their food but we were still waiting for Pekking Duck. My mom told me that it might be because it takes time to roast it. There is no server come amd check us after we stopped eating for a while. Every servers went to the table next to us who ordered Alaskan King Crab. They were checking that table every couple minutes but us!

After we waited for Pekking duck for 1 hour, I decided to asked David when is the duck coming! David said he didn't put the order because he thought that I didn't want it!

He apologized and said that if you still want it, it will take only 5 mins but we said no. We asked him for the bill and he asked me what kind of payment will I use. I said I will use debit because the restaurant won't accept credit card as he informed. I though that he's gonna bring us the bill but no! He went to the counter, had some tea, and went back the the "Alaskan King Crab" table. I waited for a bit and finally have to ask the another server. We waited for the lady to come and do the payment. There was also no thank you to us and just...

I’m glad this franchise opened a location in Coquitlam after the one at Hard rock casino closed down. It was a nice and easy place to gather for a function and then go entertain ourselves after haha - this location is easily located at Coquitlam centre where Montana’s used to be and beside Best Buy’s external entrance. There are “two sides” one for more casual dining and one I believe open for larger parties or weekends. We went early on Monday night so it was a bit quiet which was perfect for my family. The dishes are both reasonable yet a little pricey (let me make sense of my nonsense!) the siu mai and other dimsum dishes were more extravagantly priced at around $8.95 and higher which is a heftier price - however, the portion and quality tasted good! I don’t know if I could afford a full dimsum feast there but for what my dad was craving it worked out just fine. The gai lan, albeit simple, is just comforting veggies in a meal but were also pricey at $15.95 given the portion size. Usually we would pay more premium prices for pea tips but regular gai lan just seemed like a lot than usual. The sukiyaki hot pot was phenomenal! It came in at $17.95 but I really enjoyed it making its purchase worth it for my personal experience. The egg was a perfect addition and well flavoured (similar to a ramen egg) and the beef was tender. The broth was delicious and I recommend pairing this with rice (comes with choice or vermicelli or rice but as sukiyaki already has vermicelli in it then rice is the way to go). It also comes with crab stick, squid, enoki mushroom, bean curd, tofu and tomato. It is not a traditional Japanese sukiyaki but it was still comforting and enjoyable. We also ordered crispy chicken chow mein ($16.95) but I forgot to snap a picture. It was a good portion and perfectly crispy. The staff are so nice here and as of December 5, they wear masks. The service is courteous and I enjoy dining here!
