Used to love this place as they're the only real buffet in the west end. If I had a choice, I'd go to Little India any day if they were in the west end. The food is average here and they do not have as many gluten-free items as Little India. At Little India, even their fried food is GF and the meat is way fresher. I feel like New Asian Village here uses frozen meat and the meat is always over cooked as it's been sitting there for hours in the buffet and just being "topped up" every so often. When items finish, customers have to beg for a refill through the gate separating the buffet and they do not keep track of what's finished or burnt to a crisp sitting there (tandoori chicken). Go to Little India! - they treat you with respect and they keep track of things all the time!
Also, I was happy to "settle" for New Asian Village, until my most recent visit there. My fiance is super sick and I wanted to get him a take away dinner buffet for both of us. Dinner is super expensive at $30, but thought this is a once in a while thing. We are on keto and do not eat any naan or dessert. The young guy at the front asked if I wanted naan and I said no. He said then we could have 2 extra side containers because of that. I didn't expect that but was pleasantly surprised. Here I am getting the buffet boxes filled for my fiance and self and then suddenly this Indian guy with a toupee comes to me saying that the side containers are for dessert and I'm not allowed to fill main course stuff in it. I said I didn't ask for it, but the guy at the front was nice enough to give me those containers. The moustache toupee guy said that meat and dessert couldn't be compared? ---- I paid $30 each for my buffet and he came to SCOLD me about what I'm putting in my containers..really????? Where does it say that he has the right to force dessert on me? If we went there for a buffet, we would have eaten all meat and no dessert anyways and he wants to talk to me this way? So I kept my calm and told him that we don't eat dessert and the guy no one told us there's a restriction on a buffet! When I'm there with my fiance (who's Caucasian) the toupee guy never says a word and the one moment I'm there without him (I'm east Indian), I get treated like trash and talked down to? It was very unsettling that I have a sick fiance at home and I'm trying to bring him a treat and I get this customer service. Everyone should be treated with respect whether Caucasian or East Indian! At Little India, the staff is so friendly and respectful even though it is so super busy! They've lost me as a customer here at...
Read moreI've been going to this restaurant for years and after my visit on Family Day I don't think I'll be going back. I hadn't been to the restaurant in over a year, but decided to go again for my Mom's birthday as we had done the year previously.
Since it's Family Day they raise the prices, since it's a holiday. There's no difference in the buffet, they just see an excuse to charge more and do so. When we arrived the restaurant felt below room temperature, my mother kept her coat on for most of our visit. After we were given the drink menus we were ignored for several minutes. This was also surprising as for all our previous visits someone normally greets and serves us ASAP. The restaurant was not so busy that they couldn't serve us, there was a couple people sitting at the bar rolling napkins in their down time. After a few more minutes roll by a server came to our table asking if we had a question or something. I told him I wanted to order drinks, I would have thought it was normal for people to order drinks before getting food? No one came to check on our table after that, my mother had to flag someone down to get a refill.
I was absolutely shocked at how cold the food was with the exception of the naan bread. I have never been like this in the past. I was absolutely starving so I just ate what was there, I didn't want to waste the $28. My mother on the other hand is more particular than I am. She picked at her plate and couldn't finish, the food was just too cold. We told the staff and they said they'd be bringing out new food shortly. I actually had to ask my mother to please eat otherwise it was a huge waste of money. My mom waited 20 minutes for fresh food to be brought out and by that time I had finished eating my cold food, so there was a lot of sitting in silence waiting for the other person to finish eating.
The only reason I'm giving the restaurant two stars is because the desserts were excellent, especially the mango lassi. I'm really disappointed in New Asian Village, I know the service and food can be much better then what we experienced last night. There might have been in decline over the last year, I don't know, but all my mom said is that she's never going back and I'm inclined to...
Read moreMe and my friend were out to see a movie on the west side and we wanted to grab a quick dinner before showtime. Mikado and The Keg had hour waits which wouldn't work for us, so we ended up here. I've been to this location several times before, though it has been a couple years. The place is old and run down looking, seriously needs to be refreshed. My biggest issue besides the food was they put us in a booth all the way on the left and I was like "this is super uncomfortable". There were plenty of empty tables and 2 other booths empty. I'm six foot 3 and my friends also a big guy and I was terribly uncomfortable in that booth, it hurt to sit there. It was so bad I had to look at the other booths because i had sat at other booths while here on my last visit. This booth is 2 wood pieces on the wall between the table and seat back. The other booths are 3 wood pieces wide. I feel like we got put here because they wanted us to be uncomfortable and leave quicker. I'm serious, look at the pictures, no one should be sat there, never mind when tables are empty all over. Also their food is not good, quality and selection are poor, a lot of the serving dishes were empty or had been picked clean. Like the paneer was mostly peas and sauce. The serving spoons weren't replaced so they had built up food from being used all night. They didn't have any gulab jamum, the butter chicken was bland, fish pakora had been left out too long and just a super limited amount of selection. They have lost me as a customer and I hope anyone reading this goes to mcdonalds...
