We had booked in a Monday for a birthday. Called ahead because there was a party of 9 to make a reservation. Upon arrival they had no record of our reservation. Lucky we arrived early and only 1 other table was in the restaurant. As we awaited the rest of party to arrive there was about a 15-20 minute wait before those seated were offered any drinks. At this time there was still only 1 other table seated in the restaurant. The drink menu was dated and obviously been in rotation for a long period of time. There were items crossed out in faded sharpie and the edges were frayed and the menus was stained.
The seated parties finally were able to get a drink order when the rest of the party arrived. Once again we had to wait while for the staff to come and ask for drinks. One bottle of wine was ordered. The staff was unsure if that bottle was available and she left the table to check and didn’t take any further orders until she returned.
We had a round of appetizers. Once the plates were finished it again took 10 or so minutes to clear the plates. By this time there was 3-4 other tables in the restaurant. All with 4 guests or less.
We placed our orders. 1 person in our group made a dietary modification but the rest of us ordered straight off the menu. As we awaited our food a bug was discovered in a glass of wine. It was brought to the servers attention. There was no apology and it seemed to inconvenience the server more than anything. It took several minutes to get a replacement delivered. At this time there was 5 tables in the restaurant including ours. Still awaiting our food several of us finished our drinks with no one approaching us for a refill.
Still awaiting our food it was noticeable that the 4 tables seated after us had already received their food. Then our food began to trickle out. 1 dish arrived at a time with several minutes of delay before the next dish arrived. The food with the dietary restriction had to be returned twice. And the delay between dishes was so great that the person who got their dish first had finished eating by time the last dish arrived. We insisted they start eating so their food didn’t get cold. One of our dishes was lost and had obviously not been made. Which would had been obvious had someone come to check on our meals to ensure that they had all arrived. And that we were enjoying our food. I had to approach the kitchen staff to ash if our food had even been prepared or placed as an order. At this time there were a total of 6 tables in the restaurant and ones that had arrived after us were already paying for theirs.
Out missing dish had finally arrived at the time everyone else was finishing theirs. Still there seemed to be no apology and no attempt at smoothing the missing dish over. Dirty plates now crowded the table as nothing was being cleared. During our extended dinner new drinks were never offered.
The service provided at Volcano was abhorrent. Our dinner on a slow cold Monday took over 2 hours to complete with no excuse for the delay. The servers seemed to not care about the clients or doing their job in general. The only redeeming thing about this restaurant is that the food was good. Not great, but good.
I strongly recommend seeking another restaurant if you are in the mood for this type of cuisine. There are a multitude of options in the area that provide food of similar or better quality but can provide...
Read moreHighly disappointing!!! Avoid for Japanese food at all costs.
The service here was pretty horrendous. After a server dropped off 5 waters at the edge of the table, we sat for 20 minutes before a server returned to ask us what we wanted to eat (we hadn't even ordered drinks yet). Food was constantly being brought to the table without clearing empty dishes, leaving us to shuffle around dishes to try to fit food on the table. We were never given soy and we had to ask for enough place settings for everyone at the table. It's as if the restaurant is staffed with a bunch of people that have never served before.
Upon asking for a drink list we were recited a list of drinks that the waitress "thinks they might have, but would have to check". Ordered a caesar, but no clamato. Wanted Sapporo on tap (their only tap beer), but after checking we were told they were sold out (6pm on a Saturday). Thought that was a little strange.
The sashimi was served on ice and was very poorly cut. The tuna we were served wasn't cut all the way through and had very jagged edges. I normally wouldn't care but it was also served very cold, near frozen.
The rice on the maki was extremely overbearing, unseasoned, and mushy. It's very obvious that the sushi chefs here are untrained. It was comparable to grocery store or food court quality sushi. We even witnessed the sushi chef pick up garbage from the floor (that his coworker tripped on) and then return to the maki roll he was making without changing his gloves!
This restaurant needs to focus on one thing, the Vietnamese food. Unless it's as bad as their Japanese food, in which case please just close up shop because it really seemed like nobody there cared. I...
Read moreSAVE YOUR MONEY!!! My husband and I decided to give Volcano once last chance, BIG MISTAKE! There for dinner on a Friday night one would assume they would have all food options on menu available but not the case, the one salad appetizer that I love to order at ever Japanese restaurant I go to they did not have. Once one of our several different servers came over to take our order I was asking If they had a specific but standard ginger sauce that I thought most Japanese restaurants have to accompany what they call there deep fried squid. She had no idea what I was taking about but upon my better judgement still ordered that dish. What showed up at my table was a big giant plate of squid tempura, which at any other place I have been is deep fried squid not tempura. Especially because on the menu right above it they list several different types of tempura. I explained this was not what I thought and was not going to eat it so had them take it without even touching one piece but if they wanted they could still charge me for it, which they DID! Now I had worked for 10 plus years in the service industry and that is just bad business since even the one server apologized for the miss understanding because she clearly new by the questions about it that I had no idea what it was. To end off I also ordered there most expensive "buddy roll" for $28 it is very large but you are paying that for a couple shreds of lobster and avacado but mostly just rice, not worth the money at all. I have tried almost every Japanese restaurant in this city in the last 30 yrs since I have been eating Japense since I was 2yrs old and please trust me do not waste your money here there several other way better...
