Good Show and Good Food - This is the second time at this 2940 Calgary Trail location in the past 2 years, and though the Cook puts on a good show, the food is just good and far from being exceptional. The only reason we came here the second time is because of gift cards we had to use up, similarly the first time was also because of gift cards, otherwise we prefer other restaurants for high quality steaks, shrimp, and lobster.

The Ribeye 12 oz and Fillet Mignon 7 oz we received was just okay, as the quality of cut just wasn't all that good, little too much chewiness for supposedly top quality cuts of meat, especially compared to the first time we were here when the Fillet Mignon was excellent and mouth watering tender. The Carribean Lobster was good and was reasonably sized. The Yaki Yaji Shrimp was good, but I would not recommend the Shrimp Dinner by itself as its simply too small of a portion even for the smallest person.

Some of the other Teppan-Yaki Dinner combos were also quite small, so better to ask the waiter.

One of the biggest problem I found, is that the Cook likes to prepare the vegetables (Zucchini, Mushroom) early, so by the time the meat comes around, the vegetables are already starting to become cold. Japanese Village provides a bowl of rice, and then bean sprouts afterwards to try to make up for the smaller meat portions.

The prices at Japanese Village are overpriced for the food quality, but that's mainly because your really paying for the Cooking Show entertainment.

The exhaust ventilation system at our table was quite loud, that it was difficult to have a reasonable conversation. But still not as bad as the first time we were here, when the noise in the restaurant was unbearable and quite annoying to say the least, as the large table next to us were being super loud and trying to converse through an extremely loud exhaust ventilation system going on continuously in the background, and throughout the entire restaurant. Some restaurants are simply too loud, and Japanese Village is...

I made a reservation for 2 for my husbands birthday. We got to our table our coats were still on we had not seated yet. And they asked what we wanted to drink. 🤦🏻‍♀️. I said I need a menu and to sit and take my coat off please. O ok. They said. Came back 5 min later. Ordered our food, soup came within 10 min of sitting down. Then small salad. The chef was a young lady. Kind of funny what we could hear. Did a small show. Nothing like we have had before. More low key. She did it all so fast. It was not a relaxing evening by any means. We felt so rushed. I was still eating my main meal and the guy asked about dessert. Brought dessert. Then another guy brought out the cleaning stuff to clean our grill. As we were eating our dessert. No offer of coffee or tea. They wanted us out of there. The bill was brought to us. the waiter stood and waited fir us to pay. I cannot stand being rushed like that when paying so much for food. Only one wine and one non alcohol drink. I will NOT be back. It was rediculous how they rushed us out of there. Not impressed at all. Ruined the birthday evening. It does say in their ad only 90 minutes was your time. We were in and out in 60 min. They sure make you feel like “ ok your time is up “ Lemon shrimp was good. Teriyaki chicken was ok. Vegetable tempera was good but for the small number of pieces not worth the money at all. They did sing to my husband. I have had better creme brûlée. Not the best. Not a memorable experience at all. Staff was friendly though. Plenty of free parking. But like I said....

Vents were loud couldnt here conversations with eachother, No AC it was sooooo hot in their and out waitress was rude and when she asked me how come I didn’t tip much more? I said because she was kind of rude and gave up a vibe like we were being rushed and our cook didn’t wish my brother a happy birthday or sing to him he just said oh happy birthday but the table across us got a whole staff singing to them 😂 and our salads were growing in dressing and our food wasn’t as good as it usually is at the other locations we love so much,…. Anyway after I told her all that kindly, she flat out said to my face infront of my kids and Friends raising her voice “well you were rude the whole time and didn’t smile at me too!!” We we’re all like WHAT?!! Excuse?!! 😂 My party of 8 was all taken back by that and we chuckled to ourselves like “ok bud , and I bet you think the customers are always wrong too? 😒smh😏” I DONT recommend THIS place ! It’s the 3rd time we been there came a total of 8timed in 1 year and other visits were ok and as to be expected, but always the ‘same waitress’ gives us a hard time so I know it wasn’t just me I gave her 3shots and her 3rd strike was out, so I tried to give her the benifit of the doubt but that’s uncalled for and other waitresses are professional kind and caring and seems like they love their job and respect the costumers and business. But that one waitress smh she should quit if she hates her job and respect that business....

First time indulging in a Teppanyaki experience in my life at this restaurant the other night. My business partner wanted to get Sushi and was looking for a good place since we all got to Edmonton. This restaurant offered so many options where we all got what we wanted! Had such a fun exciting experience in this Japanese Village Restaurant, the ambience is very authentic with Japanese decor etc. The whole place is very well built with attention to detail. Everyone had a good time for the duration of our stay, our chef making the food was fun and kept the table entertained with laughter and good conversations. One of the highlights was the magician they had who was very talented. Great to have a nice dinner and a show which was a pleasant surprise. Only reason I am giving four stars and not five is because the prices are a bit to inflated for what the actual meal consist of. The food quality is good but for the price tag it’s not overwhelmingly high but not quite justifiable.

It was my 1st time being here for my son's 9th bday. The food was good, but I didnt think it was worth the $57 meal price tag. I also didnt know that you'd have to wait almost an hour before the chef came out to start cooking your food. My kids were hyped because they thought it would be like the ones they watch on Tiktok and Youtube but it felt flat. My kids had expectations and were disappointed and I didnt have any expectations and was disappointed. The staff were friendly and the food was good, but the long wait time killed the vibe. And the chef almost hit my 10 yr old when he was flipping his tools. But thats OK, he was probably tired from flipping all day and my 10 yr old was cool with it. Overall didnt feel like it was worth the $220 I spent. We probably would have been fuller and paid less at the Korean BBQ a minute away but they had a long wait time and this place didn't. I didnt realize we would have been waiting longer here instead.

Got a giftcard here so took my s/o out for a dinner night. We ordered the shogun combo (steak and lobster) and salmon teriyaki. The meals come with egg drop soup, house salad, stir fried veggies, a bit of shrimp and a bunch of beansprouts. The food: the house salad was just ice burg lettuce with largely cut veggies, super basic. Egg drop soup tasted like it was a powder based soup but was decent. The veggies and shrimp were okay especially because they give a veggie and sesame dip so it was tolerable. The steak was nothing to write home about. Lobster tasted old and chewy. Definitely not fresh. Salmon was bad as well. Also got a peach drink and it was super watered down and was $4! Rice also had a weird smell. Tl;dr I recommend this place to anyone who wants to see cool japanese cooking show happening infront of your eyes but quality of food is lacking
