Sapori Italian Street — Restaurant in Halifax

I wanna preface this by saying the servers we had today aren't the reason for my low star rating. This place has been on my "wanna try" list since it opened a few years back. Well, today I can say I've tried it and based on the food experience alone, I can say I likely won't ever be back. While I never want to be too negative on a restaurant, I can't help but warn fellow Italian cuisine enthusiasts about this place because like me, you will be disappointed. The first tell that it wasn't going to be a great culinary experience were the pizza bites our group ordered to share, which seemed to be premade ones you could buy from a store. I get it, not every thing can be made in-house and we probably should've ordered a more authentic starter, but that being said, the pizza bites weren't what made me feel the need to make this review. The problem was the lasagna I ordered, which had to be hands down the worst lasagna I've ever had while dining out. Not only was it lukewarm and tiny, (I'm okay with small portions if it's reflected in the price) but it also tasted straight up like Chef Boyardee out of a can - even then, the latter may be better. It was mush with the exception of the cheese ontop which was stale and hard. Due to my social anxiety, it's not in me to complain and ask for a reduced cheque or something different from the menu, but based on the things I had, I really don't think I would've wanted anything else the kitchen had to offer. I'm sure the staff would've been understanding and tried to make up for it, but when I go out to eat, I want good tasting, quality food, and wait staff aren't able to make up for that with kindness alone. Shared a bite to eat and a drink with my wife on a sunny morning and had a great time sitting in the sun. Each grabbed a Peroni and ordered a slice of pizza and espresso inside. There are different types to chose from already made waiting for you just like in Italy and after they heat them up they add a few more finishing touches depending on what you get. They also have a good selection of take away items inside including wine, cheese, meats, dry pasta and pasta sauce if you are looking for take away or a picnic along the waterfront. We went out and took our seats and everything we ordered was brought right out to us ! Great service and everything tasted delicious including the authentic espresso in an Illy cup and saucer. Great spot to grab some refreshments if you work down town or are staying at a local hotel. Would definitely go back again.
