Second time.
Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar
So, this is the second time I visited Baton Rouge Restaurant at Complex Desjardins as per the Owner’s suggestion. From owner , “We hope to see you soon so that we can serve you better.”
I was with my husband and it was his first time back since the closure.
We sat in the Bar area at a booth. I hate to say it but again it took a little while for of us to get our drinks and then our food but we enjoyed our drinks while we waited.
We did not get an entrée and we both ordered Rib Steaks. He requested his steak be well done and burnt to a crisp and I requested mine medium well. Then we both ordered the Garlic Mashed Potatoes. We also ordered one Skillet Mushrooms and one Signature Peppercorn Sauce.
Then came the food and just by looking at his steak we could tell that it was not well and as he cut into it, there was some pink. Then I cut into mine and it looked even pinker than his.
I made the suggestion to him that he should send it back and he said he would see if other parts of it was cooked better. Well, I sent mine back and it took a while he was finished his Garlic Mashed by the time I got my steak back. He said his steak upon examination was not better when he cut into it elsewhere. So again, I made the suggestion he should send it back but he refused on the grounds that it took me so long to get mine back.
I had eaten my vegetables and set up my bake potato because I had the toppings on the side when I decided to send my steak back.
When my plate came back to the table I had more vegetables, a fully loaded baked potato and I don’t know how but an even rarer steak than before. The only way I think that could have happened is they cooked me another steak. Cutting into it there was blood on the plate. Also, the fact that I got a fully loaded baked potato shows that the kitchen staff did not pay attention to the original order.
I have question: How is a pepper corn sauce salty as it is made with pepper ? The Signature Peppercorn Sauce was really salty. Just another issue.
We were both so upset and disappointed. It ruined our celebration and a night out. We did not order dessert and wanted to leave as soon as we could.
We will think hard about going back to this restaurant again. This was strike two.
Oh, so I did take the Owner’s suggestion and try the restaurant again but to no avail it was worse than the first time.
P.S. I like the Owner’s form letter version of his reply but can he please...
Read moreWHEN AN UNPROFESSIONAL CHEF IS A LIABILITY I visited this restaurant for a very special occasion. Money is not an issue but very bad food is because you do serve food. The guest: brilliant. Polite, quick effective. The waiter: brilliant. Polite, quick, active and on the spot. We were six. Three of us ordered medium rare ribsteaks ($59 each). One was medium well, acceptable, and it was eaten. The other two were "very well done", very hard to eat way too overcooked. We kindly asked the waiter to please help fixing the problem. He very politely took action. When he returned with the new two steaks they were not medium rare as we asked but this time they were barely cooked. We had another appointment and needed to eat something, so we (big mistake) ate them anyway. One steak was mine, one for my daughter. The steak were basically raw. Unfortunately I have seen this in restaurant when managers don't realize they have UNPROFESSIONAL CHEFS which don't accept criticism. I am qualified to be a manager in restaurants and I would leave no room to such behavior which can seriously damage the reputation of a restaurant. As a matter of fact when satisfied I always ask to see the chefs and/or the person who prepared my meal, to personally thank them and often tip them extra (again $ is not the issue, respect is). In this case to alleviate the inconvenience we were offered two desserts to split in six. Delicious desserts but the damage was bigger. The manager, in this cases, should do more and show up himself or herself and make sure customers leave satisfied. End of the story. Two people had the rest of the evening ruined, both got very sick because of the raw steaks. Is it really worthy to keep an employee so impulsive and unprofessional in a city where a good chef can be easily found? Again, guest and waiter top service. Don't even think to put any blame on them. Your chef or whomever cooked those steaks on the 18/7/2025 should not be there or should do something else. Business is business. I have been in many Baton Rouge Restaurants and sadly this dropped the...
Read moreWhile wandering downtown, unsure of where to dine amidst the plethora of choices, we stumbled upon Bâton Rouge. This decision, albeit initially met with some skepticism due to our general preference for non-franchise establishments, turned out to be a delightful surprise. Opting to try a variety of dishes, we settled on the ribs, Caesar salad, and spinach dip, intending to share them amongst ourselves. Each dish was a testament to the kitchen's ability to deliver well-prepared and flavorful meals, indicative of a high standard of quality. The ribs were succulent and fell off the bone, the Caesar salad was crisp and fresh with a perfect dressing-to-lettuce ratio, and the spinach dip was creamy and rich.
Despite these high marks, the overall experience didn't quite reach the pinnacle of a five-star rating, primarily because the extraordinary value and taste combination we reserve for such accolades was slightly lacking. However, the gap was narrow, with each element of the meal impressing us significantly. The service complemented the food excellently, characterized by a courteous and attentive staff that ensured our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. The promptness with which our orders were taken and delivered was noteworthy, eliminating any potential frustration that can accompany dining out.
While there were no significant shortcomings to note, and our visit to Bâton Rouge was thoroughly enjoyable, it was the minor details that held back our experience from reaching that coveted five-star perfection. Nonetheless, it's clear that Bâton Rouge excels in providing a satisfying dining experience, from the quality of its dishes to the efficiency of its service, making it a worthy stop for anyone finding themselves undecided in the...
