I stopped by Franklin’s Subs and Suds in Old Montreal one night, and it was a fantastic way to end the evening. The highlight of my visit was the poutine with smoked meat. The fries were perfectly crispy, the gravy was savory without being overwhelming, and the smoked meat brought a rich, satisfying flavor that tied it all together. It was comfort food at its finest. The atmosphere at night was cozy and inviting, with just the right amount of buzz to keep the energy up without feeling crowded. The beer selection was impressive, offering plenty of options to pair with the meal. I enjoyed the relaxed vibe, where you could sit back and savor your food while soaking in the historic surroundings of Old Montreal. Overall, Franklin’s delivered a great experience. The combination of tasty food, a comfortable setting, and a prime location makes it a spot worth visiting, especially after dark when Old Montreal’s charm is at its peak. Four stars for a memorable night out with excellent poutine.

Franklin in Montreal offers a culinary experience that’s undeniably impressive, with dishes that are expertly crafted and bursting with flavor. I had the fish and chips, which were perfectly crispy with a tender, flaky interior, and the steak poutine—a decadent delight with rich gravy, tender steak bites, and perfectly melted cheese curds. The food alone could easily make this spot a favorite. However, the ambiance left something to be desired. The background music, while modern, included tracks with adult sarcastic language that felt out of place and, frankly, off-putting for an otherwise upscale dining experience. It distracted from what could have been a completely enjoyable evening. While the food was memorable, I hope Franklin reconsiders their playlist to better match the quality of their menu and create a more welcoming atmosphere for all diners. If you’re someone who prioritizes food over ambiance, it’s worth a visit—but be prepared for an edgy soundtrack.

The most authentic Philly cheesesteak I've ever had in Montreal. I'm from NJ and I've had authentic Philly cheesesteaks my whole life growing up. I was sorely disappointed that such a thing didn't exist in Montreal. Most places don't use real cheesesteak steak, they just cut up a regular steak and it's not good. This has the right kind of steak, the right kind of roll, which are both super important. I wish they had American cheese as an option and also that you could order a cheesesteak hoagie with lettuce, tomato and raw onion as standard. I was able to order mine with cheddar instead of provolone/cheez whiz. I was thrilled as this satisfied my cheesesteak craving. It would also be cool if they had a chicken cheesesteak. It is expensive and doesn't come with fries or anything. The parking is also practically nonexistent. I had to pay $15 to park in a lot as they're located near the old port. But even so, I will definitely be going back in the future!! 🤤

It's made to be eaten when you're drunk but since I wasn't, I felt like I missed out on a key part that helps the food. Still, the sober experience isn't bad. Thanks to experienced staff, simple ingredients are augmented by culinary prowess. Shoutout to John for cooking and chatting alongside me.

Classic Hot Dog - 2 50 Toasted hotdog w/ store bought weenies and buns, & mustard, including homemade coleslaw & relish Well executed toasted hotdog. The taste is peak generics. The meat grease (unique franklins blend from grill usage) brings the base dog together. The coleslaw and relish are examples of balancing your ingredients witb the respective brines. You taste the cucumber and cabbage but also the brine that gives them the sweet kick. One personal note is the mustard:coleslaw. Too much mustard and too little slaw for my tarte. That and the way i bite into the bun ingredients up means im bombarded by the mustard and have to dig to get the sweet slaw and relish. Made my mom go down memory lane the relish and coleslaw were so good.

Patate Frites - $?.?? Excellent quand frais. Croustillants, bien coloré.. c'est le temps qui ruinera l'expérience car ils sont petites. Mangez les vites ou préparez vous à rajouter de plus en plus de sauce pour compenser pour une frite froide.

Chicken Burger - $?.?? I was pleasantly surprised at the potato bun! The chicked was well fried. The dryness was compensated by the tomato, lettuce...

I'm not usually one to write reviews, but this experience at Franklin's Subs and suds was truly something else. I've been there twice now, and I just had to share this. The first visit, earlier this summer, was not great. We wanted to get some takeout, and the server was quite rude and seemed incredibly impatient. I've never seen anything like that in a restaurant before. We let it pass, because all we wanted was our food.

Fast forward to two days ago when we decided to give it another shot. We wanted to order takeout again. The outdoor seating was practically empty, and the restaurant was hardly even half full. But here's the kicker: they told us they couldn't take any more takeout orders because they were overwhelmed. If we wanted to order, we had to sit down. This just didn't make any sense to me because the cooking time for our food would have been the same whether we ate inside or outside. I should also mention that we were planning on tipping the same amount whether we dined in or took out.

We even asked if we could just sit down, order, pay the bill once the food arrived, and then leave with our order. But nope, that was not an option. They flat out told us that if we wanted to eat there, we should go outside and wait for 40 minutes. Oh, and guess what? It's the same server from our first visit.

Honestly, it's just baffling. The food might be good, but the way they handle things is a real head-scratcher. I hope they figure things out because this kind of service could easily drive people away. It's not normal that we should practically beg just to...

I am shocked! Amazing experience and especially for delivery!

Very good portions Super tasty Perfectly cooked Surprising!

Poutine: If you miss or want to know what poutine was in the 90s or early 2000s... This is definitely it! Sauce was missing a little but damn, that was a trip down memory lane. I highly enjoyed this ❤️

Philly stake: This is definitely surprising... At first glance it looks like a teenager wanted to make food... Then you look more at the pictures and you think like "Ok... Probably some childrens made that..." BUT THEN... you taste ahah.. Wow. Its all in the meat! Its pricy. But its a good treat 👌 (Make it spicy, itll be a killer ~)

Simple Burger: Again... This look very bad. Even when I had it in front of me, It looked worst than most fastfood burgers ive seen 😂... But then I tasted... Im really speechless. It makes no sense, the ingredients are so simple... Like basically the whole order... But always surprised us!

Good job Franklin's, HIGHLY recommended...
