Dès qu'il a été servi à ma table, j'ai été captivé(e) par sa présentation magnifique, avec un motif de feuille délicatement dessiné sur la mousse veloutée. Dès la première gorgée, j'ai été accueilli(e) par une combinaison divine d'espresso riche et de lait crémeux. Le goût était parfaitement équilibré, ni trop fort ni trop doux. Le savoir-faire du barista était évident à chaque gorgée, et j'ai vraiment savouré cette indulgence. I used eat here all the time and I’ve been coming here since 2014, but many things have changed since then. Although the food is good, practices customer service have declined. No one asks me if I would like to have steamed milk in my coffee or does the little extra that the staff over the years used to do. Two weeks ago, I was handed a black coffee that tasted like water. Then I came again, but left because the tables, like my last visit were not clean.

Today I ordered a croissant that was at 50% off because it was a day old. I ended up paying full price and when I asked I was told that the cost of a butter croissant was 4 something with tax. Nowhere in the Vicinity or Montreal do they charge $4 for a BUTTER croissant. Since this person works there and the venoisserie sells well, I’m surprised to know he doesn’t know the price. I left without arguing, but it felt weird and I really needed to say something because it was really strange. I came back to discuss the matter and he didn’t understand or didn’t want to admit. He was insisting it was $4 something with tax and that the price associated with the button for croissant was automatically giving me a discount. Discounts have to be shown on the receipt and it wasn’t.

Eventually other staff members got involved to try to resolve the issue. The person who originally served me gave me attitude by telling me that I was putting words in people’s mouths when really I had misheard and I corrected that mistake immediately.

I tried to explain to the others and they got it immediately. According to consumer rights protection I was in the right to ask for $10 due to a price error and an apology from the person who served me for selling me a day old croissant at full price. I never usually implement the $10 fee when cashiers make mistakes. I was one for a few years and we are all human.

In this case I decided to let the establishment keep the fee and return was was owed to me. However, they have lost me as a customer and that’s too bad because they have really great food. I really appreciate the staff members that stepped up to intervene in trying to help. I can understand it was awkward for the young woman, but it was even more awkward asking for a $1 refund and having to explain a few times to the man why this was a mistake. I had just finished a 3 hour marketing exam, the last thing I wanted was drama over a croissant and a dollar. But hey, At least I’m putting that marketing knowledge to good use.

My take away, go for the food but leave for the service. Not everyone there is like this. This is just the end of the road for me at...
