Universel Déjeuners et Grillades: A Delightful Lunch Experience
Recommended by a family friend from Toronto, Universel Déjeuners et Grillades did not disappoint.
Coffee: We began our meal with a regular coffee that felt like heaven in a cup. The rich aroma and perfect balance made it a great start to our lunch.
Dishes Ordered:
Bacon Egg Benedict: Perfectly poached eggs with crispy bacon, served on a fresh English muffin, all smothered in a silky hollandaise sauce. The flavors were spot on, and the dish was well-prepared.
Asparagus, Ham, and Swiss Cheese Omelette: A fluffy omelette filled with tender asparagus, savory ham, and melted Swiss cheese. The combination was delightful, with each ingredient complementing the others perfectly.
Mushroom Egg Benedict: Another excellent variation of the classic dish, featuring sautéed mushrooms that added an earthy richness to the creamy hollandaise and perfectly cooked eggs.
*Service: The service was smooth and efficient, accommodating groups of any size with ease. The staff was attentive, ensuring that our needs were met throughout the meal.
Presentation and Portions: One of the standout aspects of Universel Déjeuners et Grillades is the presentation and portion sizes. Each dish was beautifully presented, making the meal visually appealing. The generous portions ensured that we left feeling satisfied and content.

Read moreI've visited Universel Déjeuners (359 Rue Ste-Catherine O.) four times in the last three years, with the most recent time in July 2025. It has consistently provided satisfying and tasty breakfasts with good service and reasonable value.
Each time, I've been seated promptly and treated courteously. Although the servers are busy, they've done a good job each time. The coffee was refilled, the orders were done right, and the service was pleasant and efficient.
I had the namesake Déjeuner Universal. Two scrambled eggs, a crepe with added strawberries, bananas, and chocolate-hazelnut spread, along with bacon, brown beans, home-fried potatoes, toast, jam and cretons. I added ham and sausages, too. It was a massive breakfast, but I was very hungry (I'd been exercising a lot and walking about 30,000 steps a day.) It did not disappoint. Au contraire!
I've also tried their waffles. Very tasty! Their maple syrup was perfect. Not sure why, but it somehow tasted better than what I've had at other breakfast restaurants.
Previously, I enjoyed a tasty Mexican breakfast burrito, filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, brown beans, salsa and guacamole, and accompanied by their delicious home-fried potatoes and some fresh fruit. Very tasty. Very satisfying.
The portions have always been good and they seemed to use fresh, quality ingredients. The menu is big.
The place was clean and orderly, and the decor was modern and pleasant.
I've been to their similar-sized competitor nearby (a bit east on Ste. Catherine), but I prefer...
Read moreYOU WANT TOR READ THIS!!! Such a disappointment! Yesterday a group of friend and myself decided to give this spot a try. We were a party of 10 and unfortunately 2 out of the whole group where going to join us 1 hour later . We asked for a table of 10 and they then proceeded to tell that all the party needed to be present for them to sit. I can 100% understand that a restaurant has to maxime its space especially on Sundays but when 8 out of 10 people are there and when the restaurant is half empty that does not make any sense at all. They made us wait an extra hour to sit us down , the time it took for our friends to arrive. TO OUR DISMAY WHEN THE OWNER PROCEEDED TO SIT US DOWN …HE SEPARATED US IN MULTIPLE TABLES…and again remember the restaurant is half empty….the space is plentiful…We had to beg him and sit us all togheter hence the reason why we waited AN HOUR, and when one of us got irritated by his power trip and told him so , he told us that HE COULD NO LONGER SERVE US!! Making us wait 1 hour to then proceed to sit us on separate tables…some people should not be in that industry !!!Avoid this place at all costs….the ownership has no restaurant iq/awareness and is the opposite of client friendly. The food might be good but if the service and the attention and care to your clients is this rigid and cold it makes this restaurant...
