Hi guys I just want to let you all know that this is possibly one of the worst experiences I ve ever had in my life. Before coming to the restaurant, we were skeptics of the restaurant after seeing reviews of it changing owners and that the food is very different from when it first opened. However, we chose to give this restaurant a try and believe when I tell u that the comment we read online was spot and this is definitely the worse Japanese too Iāve ever had in my life. Iām not trying to insult this restaurant just because of subjective options but this was so bad I can not comprehend how bad this is. Starting with the tempura dish, this is the first time in my life where Iām served with tempura with spicy mayoand I was also served with 4 pieces of bell pepper. Like comāon how can u even call this Japanese food, thereās way too much moisture in the bell pepper for it to be used as a tempura veggie, and how can u pair deep fried food with more oily sauce as well as terriyaki sauce. This isnāt even the worst, the maki rolls are nightmares. The shrimp ma shrimp maki deep fried roll is deep fried with cheese inside with more deep fried tempura bits with almost no shrimp drizzled with more mayo on top the whole thing is just super oily and inedible. The proportion between the actual sushi and the evils filling is so disproportionate that this food is basically inedible. If I didnāt waste about 100$ on this meal, I wouldāve just left the restaurant without any hesitation. We are only in Montreal for a few days and this is definitely by far the worst food Iāve put in my mouth in Montreal. I sincerely pray for whoever is reading this to not waste time, money and calories to try this place out. Honestly itās hard to find food worst than this in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently dined at Yen, and while my experience had its highlights, there were a few aspects that fell short of expectations.
First and foremost, the food was fantastic. Each dish was meticulously prepared and bursting with flavor. From the fresh sushi to the sashimi, every bite was a testament to the chef's skill and dedication. The quality of the food alone would make me consider returning.
The service was also commendable. The staff were attentive and courteous, going out of their way to help me figure out how to pay the parking feesāa gesture I greatly appreciated. Their willingness to assist with such a mundane task speaks volumes about their commitment to customer satisfaction.
However, the environment left something to be desired. The noise level was quite high, largely due to the chatter from other patrons. This bustling atmosphere starkly contrasts with the serene and tranquil vibe typically associated with traditional Japanese restaurants. If you're looking for a quiet, intimate dining experience, this might not be the place for you.
Another drawback was the behavior of one of the waiters. They seemed overly eager to clear the bill for the next table, which came across as somewhat pushy and detracted from the otherwise pleasant service. It wasn't a major issue, but it did leave a bit of a sour note on the overall experience.
In summary, while Yen excels in food quality and generally good service, the noisy environment and the occasional pushiness of the staff might be off-putting for some. If you don't mind a lively atmosphere and are there primarily for the excellent food, itās still...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I came here for our anniversary, as we saw someone with food from here and we thought it looked good and wanted to try. To begin, the presentation was indeed very beautiful and aesthetic, which is what drew us to this place initially. However, looks can be deceiving. The food was incredibly mediocre, and the price point for everything made it seem even worse than it was because of the high expectations we had. We ordered one sushi roll, one poke bowl, one salmon bowl, and the tempura. The sushi roll was a whopping $18 for 6 pieces and it was some of the most average sushi Iāve ever had. The poke bowl was dull and lacked so much in flavour. Iāve had better poke bowls at millions of other places for cheaper. The salmon bowl was very small, and very sad. The salmon itself was nothing special. The tempura was half batter, which you would not expect from a place that is supposed to be a little bit more refined. The service was not much better either. Absolutely all the tables surrounding ours were dirty with half eaten food still on the table the entire time. As a matter of fact ALL tables were dirty with fruit flies all over the leftovers. They just donāt clean them when itās close to their 2:30-4 break, even though we came around 1:30 pm, so the atmosphere was just horrible and disappointing.
Overall, the food lacks in flavour and depth, itās not innovative for the price point, the ingredients are nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing stood out. Save your time and money and go somewhere cheaper that will offer tastier food with...
