We went to Saltys because it was recommended by a friend. We were craving sea food and they told us this was the place to go. We got there (group of 4) and we wanted the patio seat. We waited 45 minutes which was expected. We got seated and we were looking at the menu. They had happy hour after 8pm and we got really excited about the items and drinks but they weren’t offered in the regular menu and you could only get them if you sat inside. Our server came to greet us and asked us what we wanted to drink. We asked her about the happy hour and she said we needed to sit inside I asked her if that was okay and she scoffed, walked away, talked to a girl at the front of the restaurant (hostess), cameback our way, walked right past us and started helping the other table behind us. My friends and I just looked at each other not knowing what to do. We kept looking at the hostesses seeing if they’d approach us to get us seated because at this point we didn’t want the original server helping us. After almost 10 minutes one of us had to stand up and get the hostesses to sit us inside. Our new server came to help us and I asked for the manager. She told me it was busy and asked me why I wanted her. I started telling her the story and she said “oh yea that’s for sure a manager thing” and went to get her. Manager came and I told her what just happened. She apologized and understood so she got our server to get us a drink on the house (this wasn’t expected). The rest of the night went okay except when we ordered appetizers they gave us dirty plates and when we asked for waters they told us they were short of glasses (?!). They also completely forgot to give us cutlery. The service was okay. The girls that put the food on your table just put the food on the table and didn’t make eye contact with any of us. Reason why I am giving two stars is because the food was really good. I recommend the curried mussels with a baguette. We ordered stuffed peppers and they were burnt and we were told it was supposed to look like that but then they took it back and brought a new one and they said “sorry it wasn’t supposed to look like this”. Like I said, food is amazing, service okay. I just think the servers need to be trained how to be a little more personable with customers even when it’s busy, that’s what makes...
Read moreFood good for the price …not great! Fisherman’s bowl
Rice was on the plate and the bowl was thrown on top, I had to scrape half the rice stuck under the bowl. It looked like they tried to put a nice round circle of rice on the plate and the person who put the bowl on top just put it on and didn’t really care.
Service was poor.
We waited in line like everyone else even though we had a reservation and just like the other 3 groups waiting in front of us…..and people are so clueless they walk up and say we have a reservation. And the hostess like always, doesn’t say anything like “please can u wait in line like everyone else”…. No…..so away they go to the table while the rest of us wait like respectfully people for the last 15 minutes in line. We were sat outside and we sat for 5 minutes before she even showed up. And another 5 to get a glass of water 10 minutes for the icy drinks, we ordered and the meal came, like I said was good not great, she asked how everything was and then noticed my glass of water was empty and said would you like more water, I said yes please. So another 10 minutes later she is going around asking people if they need anything else and then notices she never brought water. So she came over and asked us if there was anything else or just the bill and then asked if I still wanted the water.
We used to think we get crappy service because we don’t order alcoholic drinks but no it’s just seems to be the norm with restaurants now a days. But hey make sure when u put the card in the machine it reads 18% min amount for a tip. It was a $10 max tip for the kitchen staff, 2 out of 3 dishes were fine.
People have to stop tipping crappy service it’s the only way they will try harder...
Read moreWe were visiting Penticton and were told that we HAD to go to Salty's. Reservations were made. We were quickly seated. Our waitress Emma W came to take our drink order. I ordered the Sunday special Caesar but was told that they didn't have the right toothpicks??? Anyway order the regular Caesar but requested that it not be too spicy. After a very long wait our drinks arrived. We had requested water which we also waited a very long time for even though we saw our waitress walk right past our table with the water pitcher not once but twice. We ordered the oysters and chowder as a starter. They arrived promptly and were good. We ordered another round of drinks and waited for our entrees to arrive. Still no water. The prawn crunch roll, scallop remoulade and honey bourbon salmon came to the table. The prawns and scallops were great however the salmon was dried out and completely burned on the bottom. After quite some time we got Emma's attention and showed her the salmon which was inedible. She agreed and offered to put in another order of salmon which we declined. We ordered another order of the scallops instead. We watched as she showed the burnt salmon to who we assume was a manager and pointed to our table. Then we waited and waited. We watched as several orders of the scallops were served but not to us. Just as we were about to ask for the bill the scallops arrived at the table. One would think that they would put a rush on this order as everyone else at the table had completed their meal. The restaurant was not overly busy with plenty of empty tables. The food we were able to eat was good, service...
