We stopped by for their fush and chips dinner, which happened to be on special - buy one at full price and get the second one at half price.
The fish on hand was Pollock, and it was served with a large mound of fries
The fish itself was delicious and tender and flaky, but the batter (seems homemade) was a tad greasy but still flavourful.
The fries were both plentiful and hot.
The malt vinegar was served in single serve packets and was adequate to the task, but the pre-packaged tartar sauce was not to our liking.
The first cup of coffee served was not hot but was still flavourful.
The refill coffee was super hot and so much better - quite nice, in fact!
The small side of coleslaw served with the meal was quite delicious, and I contemplated ordering another serving.
The restaurant is small and can be easily missed as one drives past it.
The interior has booths and tables in dark wood that hearken back to a simpler time and thus makes the customer feel relaxed and at ease.
On display all along the walls are sketches and drawings of artwork that is for sale and while there for our meal, we noticed some lovely sketches (in full colour) of numerous birds that were most assuredly done quite beautifully.
We especially liked the one of the Blue Jay and the one with the Chickadee.
The service was excellent.
The price charged was most reasonable, and we were quite full when we departed.
We will definitely return and try out some other dishes served.
Aside: Advertised it reads that they do serve an all-day breakfast, but we have not yet tried it. Perhaps we will try it on our return visit.
From our perspective, this is a hidden gem in Sauble Beach - even though the batter on the fish was a bit greasy and the prepackaged tartar sauce not great.
If you pass by, we would recommend that you stop by and give it a try.
It is quite...
Read moreTuesday August 8th we ordered 2 med fries (that was the only size available) , onion rings, mozzarella sticks, cheese balls, and gravy to go with our homemade burgers at the cottage. Called ahead to order and they said 20 mins. Perfect…. Got there waited in line. Young lady at the counter was very nice she got the food and the gravy was separate so it would not spill. Paid and left 18% tip $52.16. Made two quick stops then home. My wife put the food on a tray while I cooked burgers. Our son would not eat anything. I asked what was wrong? My wife said the fries are mushy….actually everything is kinda gross. So I went to have a look. The fries were like Mccan hash browns. Little pieces and anything that did resemble a actual French fries was only about maybe 2 inches long and mushy. The onion rings looked like they had been cooked and then put on the grill because they were burnt on one side and also very soft. Mozzarella sticks leaking cheese and cheese balls were ok but not good enough to make up for the rest of the food. Did not have time to pack it all up and go back to complain. Had kids to feed and food cooking. Thank goodness for KD and my wife made us a pasta salad to go with dinner. D&L has always been a go to for us since 2018 when we purchased our family cottage. Lots of morning breakfast, Tuesday fish and chips specials and everything in between but I have to say I very disappointed. It has clearly gone down hill. The restaurant does have a odour (urine type smell) looks long overdue for a good cleaning. It was a waste of money and no one touched anything so...
Read moreThis was awful, we were a table of three. The restaurant is very hot. No a/c. We saw it was busy. It’s only about ten- twelve tables and need some real TLC. We waited to be seated, and then didn’t get menus, they didn’t have a few drinks that were on the menu. The waitress advised us not to drink the water. After waiting another 15 min she came back to take our order, but then promptly left to go get another table food. While serving that table their food She also announced how this is the cheapest restaurant in Sauble beach. She then takes a few more trips in and out of the kitchen for again another table. Returns back to us, where the table next to us excused himself, but asked about menus. The waitress leaves us and gets them one menu to share. As she stated earlier they don’t have more then ten menus in the place. That table didn’t order and left. The waitress gave a comments of “well, I can only do so much.” She then proceeded to take our order. We sat and watched as the rest of service took place. After about 30 min the server then came back to us and said “ I did take your order, right?” ( it was in that moment, we knew we “messed” up) I don’t need to go into more details as they don’t get any better. My guest and I decided this wasn’t the experience or place for us to spend our time, or money for that matter. Would...
