The food here was good, but the service is subpar to say the very least. My friends and I were a walk in of 5 people and right off the bat, the hostess was incredibly rude and seemed irritated. when she was walking us to our table, i asked for a different long table sitting in front of the projector screen and she looked very irritated, very annoyed and very angry. i even looked at my boyfriend to see if he noticed the same thing, which he did. She very reluctantly agreed to moving us, which was very confusing to me as the table we wanted was not reserved and the restaurant was empty. we were a walk-in of 5 people, but would potentially be 9 people. the hostess then tried removing one of the mini tables to accomodate 5 instead of 9, and when i told her we'd potentially be 9, she looked even more irritated and put the table back. she was not warm, welcoming or pleasant to be around.
while eating our food, a piece of our long table literally fell apart and one of the connecting pieces fell onto my friend's lap. unfortunately, she had a pizza, knife, plates and a glass of water on the table which fell onto her and got her dress completely wet. they were nice enough to take the pizza off the bill; however, the piece that fell was the piece that the hostess originally began to pull apart. this proves that she did not properly attach it again.
Lastly, we had a friend order a diet coke which was on his bill. he had to leave and asked me to pay for his bill. i began drinking the rest of his diet coke and upon receiving my bill, i noticed that the server had ALSO charged me for a coke. when i addressed it, she said that i am not allowed to drink another person's drink...i am very confused why we were charged for two servings of coke? all i did was drink the left over coke of the glass that we were ALREADY PAYING for. so am i not allowed to have a sip of anyone's drink at any restaurant ever???? it's clear she just wanted to upcharge her bill for more sales.
not sure if i'll...
Read moreHad an amazing time at Local last night with my work crew! We had a 5 PM reservation to catch up and stay for the Team Canada finals at 8 PM. From the moment we arrived, our waitress Mumbi was fantastic—always on time with drinks, super attentive, and made sure no glass was ever empty. Huge shoutout to her!
A little after 7 PM, we were suddenly told we had to leave by 7:45, which was a huge inconvenience since we had planned to stay for the game. We repeatedly asked the brunette hostess (could also be a floor manager, as she had the same jacket on as Mac) in the beige sports jacket to speak to Mac so we could try to work something out, but she refused to honour this request. Even after we saw her and go speak to him, LOL! She didn’t care, didn’t try to help, and had a terrible attitude the entire time. She reeked of negativity and my entire table felt it. Shortly after, Mumbi came over and said, “Unfortunately, I have to give you guys your bills.” No fault to her, but I wasn’t about to agree to leave without even trying to stay. Funny how the "first come, first serve" rule didn’t seem to apply here.
Since the hostess wasn’t willing to do her job, I had to get up and speak to Mac myself. Absolute gem of a guy—he simply said, “I’ll see what I can do.” That’s all we needed to hear. No guarantees, just the reassurance that someone was willing to try.
Despite that one negative interaction, the rest of the staff were amazing, constantly complimenting our energy and making sure we had a great time. We spent nearly $1,000, (just a drop in the bucket for this place i’m sure) and it would’ve been nice if every interaction matched the professionalism of Mumbi and Mac. Hoping that certain staff improve their attitude, but regardless, we’ll be back for another great night—hopefully without the negativity.
This 5star review is simply a reflection on Mumbi’s vibrant spirit and Mac’s willingness and professionalism. It would be 1star if it was on the basis of the other...
Read moreDecided to try out the local for a Friday evening date night and really had a great time.
The atmosphere is fairly casual with more business events earlier in the evening but then the environment changes to a more lounge and chill restaurant without being too loud or obnoxious.
The food here is gast-pub in nature. We took advantage of the happy hour by grabbing a couple starters. We tried the Local Fried Chicken and the Smoked trout dip.
The fried chicken was a sizeable portion ($20) with a light crispy breading and then topped with a sauce. We tried the dragon glaze, which is sweet/savoury with a hint of garlic. This was good for the first few bites but it got pretty sweet and cloying towards the end. I think it would be better if the sauce was provided on the side or consider this as a sharing option.
The salmon dip was excellent too. Quite creamy but not too heavy. There is a decent amount of smoked salmon here but not too salty. Overall with the BBQ kettle chips this is an awesome sharing dish with drinks.
We also ordered a salad and fish tacos for our mains. The salad was excellent with a slightly sweet dressing with poppy seeds. There was a generous helping of cheese here to tie the salad together.
The tacos were excellent too. These were much larger than most places so this was an excellent dish. Large prices of fish in light batter that made for a delicious taco. Fries here were delicious too.
Drinks were lovely too. I enjoyed the house lager that is smooth and delicious. It is a nice beer that's easy to go down.
Lastly the service here is great. Our servers were attentive and we were impressed with how quick the kitchen was.
Overall we had a great time. Nice place for a date night and lovely staff and food. Reasonable prices too which is a plus as well. Highly...
