Modern restaurant / bar with a decent food and beer selection. Hip and trendy interiors and well maintained establishment.
Came to visit with a group of 5 for a work team dinner on a Thursday evening. We made reservations online for 4 pm, knowing that it will be a busy after work hours. We were seated promptly and comfortably when we arrived. Our server gave us menus and took our drink orders. We received the drinks a few minutes later, however, we did not see our server for another 15 minutes after that. We were waiting to order both appetizers and mains since we noticed that it is starting to get busy, so we did not mind as much that she took a while to come by again. However, we placed our food orders around 4:20 pm and did not receive the appetizers until 5:00 pm (40 minutes later)! Not only that, our server failed to bring us plates and napkins and we had to try and catch her attention just to receive some. We we're really trying to be considerate, since it does get hectic around this time, but that was not the end of it. After we finished our appetizers we waited for another half an hour (5:30 pm) until our main courses arrived! Not only that, we did not receive any cutleries / silverware to eat with, so we tried getting our servers attention since she did not bother checking on our table. Worse part is we noticed that she was trying to avoid eye contact and purposely not trying to acknowledge any of us, as she was serving the other tables around us. At this point, we we're getting fed up so I decided to walk over to the bar and asked another worker for some forks and knives. We finally we're able to work on our mains and did enjoy the food, however the whole service experience overshadowed everything. Service: 1 out of 5.
For our shareable appetizers we had an order of truffle fries and spinach & artichoke dip. The fries were fried perfectly and definitely was the highlight of our visit. However, the spinach & artichoke dip disappointed us, since we received it when it was getting cold and the spinach were all bunched up together making it hard to eat with the tortilla chips. For the main courses, our group ordered 2 peri peri chicken, prawn tacos, "a lotta burrata" pizza and I got the salmon fresca. No big complains with the mains, since they all tasted exceptional. However since it took over an hour to receive it, we did not get to enjoy it as much as we would have liked. Food: 3 out of 5.
Being seated inside, we also noticed that there is no access to the restaurant from the patio area. We witnessed multiple groups of people getting confused on how to enter the establishment. We watched people walking around the patio and be disappointed that there is no entrance access, and then having to go back around the building to get into the establishment. There was a sign set up outside (behind the patio wall) that needed to be set up front, since it definitely confused and misdirected traffic to the restaurant. Atmosphere: 2 out of 5.
Overall I will not be opposed to trying this place again but on a different day and time. But I will give it a 2 out of 5 rating in terms of my most recent...
Read moreRatatouille but with out the atouille ———————————————- TLDR: there were mice, we complained, no action was taken besides them bribing us with dessert ———————————————- I have ventured across the whole of America to set foot in the beautiful city of Toronto. I wanted to experience everything food and see how it compared to back home.
While exploring and we stumbled upon this place. At first glance it seemed pretty nice and squeaky clean. Dim sports bar like atmosphere, wall to wall TVs, furry friends scurrying in the shadows and bumping music. The poke bowl I received was better than good , serving size and all, but my wife’s spicy vodka ratatoni- sorry rigatoni - stole the show. A nice balance of spice and sauce. The drinks were a decent price(happy hour after 9) and flavorful. However they were not enough to wash away what we saw.
I have indulged myself in some less than reputable eateries before but I have never been plagued with such a four-legged issue.
My SIL spotted a mouse during one of my riveting stories out of the corner of her eye. As responsible customers we did not yell RAT - but on second thought maybe we should- we told our server of the issue. She said would report it the manager rat away. During this time my wife and SIL saw 2 tiny mice and one desk sized mouse. A new person showed up and simply stated they were sorry for our distress and they comp us a dessert. We noticed our server coming less and less as the word spread, saying she was sorry they must be coming in from the patio since it was cold outside.
Dessert bribe delivered - my wife and SIL were stressing out more due to the tiny shadows scurrying about (I had my back turned to the little buggers so I could not see em) and were able to even catch the mice on video. It ended with our server bring us the check and stating that the restaurant didn’t have the heart to put mouse traps. I thought to myself that was a kind gesture but at what cost if it would cost them business. And for the prices we paid, I felt the mouse got a bigger slice of the cheese than we did.
Finally the cheese on top, even though it had above average reviews, we find out they been having reviews like this for TWO YEARS. We probably saw that mouse’s great grand mice. All in all decent service(until the end), good food, and try to stay in the middle of the room so all the footsteps scare the mice away from...
Read moreYesterday I visited King Taps with colleagues after coming in from a snowstorm. The streets were wet and slushy, so when we were seated at the bar, we used a few stools to keep our work bags off the floor.
Not long after, a woman approached us and rudely demanded that we move our belongings because she wanted to sit there. Instead of simply asking politely, she made an unnecessary and condescending remark: “If you worked or lived around here, you would know it gets busy.” This felt like a direct judgment based on our appearance, implying that we didn’t belong in the area or the financial district.
The irony? We do live and work in the area, and this isn’t the first time we’ve dined here. Unfortunately, this visit reaffirmed a pattern I’ve noticed before—unequal treatment compared to other guests. This isn’t just my experience; it has been a topic of conversation among others who have felt similarly, raising concerns about possible discriminatory behavior. I sincerely hope more people speak up about it.
We tried not to engage with the hostility, hoping to salvage our evening, and a staff member eventually brought over another chair. However, by then, the moment had already been ruined, so we decided to settle our tab and leave. While we were getting dressed, before we even had a chance to remove our belongings, this woman began moving our things herself. When I questioned why—since we were clearly in the process of leaving—the bartender inserted herself into the situation, siding with the woman and telling us to stop. Meanwhile, the woman continued loudly calling us “so rude,” and rather than de-escalating the situation, the bartender supported her comments.
This entire interaction was uncomfortable, unprofessional, and entirely avoidable. What could have been a simple, courteous exchange turned into an evening ruined by rudeness and judgment. Even more disappointing is that, after checking other Google reviews, it seems management is not doing much to address concerns or provide opportunities for a better experience.
Needless to say, we won’t...
