MADO Eaton Centre — Restaurant in Toronto

We ordered: -make your own breakfast (Sunny- Side-Up w/ sujuk $14.99 and Homemade Kaymak $8.99) -make your own breakfast (Sunny- Side-Up w/ sujuk $14.99 and Honey w/ kaymak $5.99 -Doner Kebab (Leaf) $25.99 -2 lemonades -turkish tea

First they came to tell us that the Donner is not available but they will replace it with Iskender Kebab... We were fine with that.

Then bizzarly they served one plate of just fried eggs with nothing else, not even bread. 10 minutes later they served fried sujuk, still no bread. 10 minutes later they served the Kaymak with honey, no bread. The rest of us still haven't gotten our food and the one who did can't eat it cuz again, STILL NO BREAD. So we let them know that the food they served is now cold and we can't eat it, they took away the eggs and sujuk and then magically we got the kebab dish, with a hair on it. At the same time they brought back the same eggs and sujuk without heating them up. We told them about the hair so they took away the kebab only to bring back the same dish 20 min later.

Mind you our third person still haven't gotten their order yet more than 45 min after we got the first dish and at least 1 hr and 10 min after getting there. By the time they delivered the second set of eggs we had to refuse it because the eggs were overcooked, no homemade kaymak, and no bread. The manager tried to do service recovery by not charging for the things we didn't receive and giving us free baklava but honestly at that point we just wanted to leave and we were there for breakfast not dessert. Also, twice one of the servers tried to clear away plates we were still eating from. Very very bizarre. First they don't serve everyone at the table at the same time then they try to rush us by clearing unfinished plates.

Then the bill came and it was $118 without the breakdown for the items. We were supposed to pay for turkish tea, Donner, 2 lemonades, fried eggs, sujuk, Kaymak with honey. They don't give you a proper bill just tell u how much and expect you to just pay. When we asked for the detailed bill we found items that were not supposed to be there. Our correct total was $66. I actually visited Mado Yonge street location tonight & I couldn’t believe the terrible treatment I received from the manger - she was very unwelcoming. However the gentlemen that were working there were the nicest people - it was just the manager that really had issues and I’ve been reading the reviews and see there has been similar concerns voiced by other people.

I asked the manager if there was a simit bagel left and she said no and rudely walked away without even caring to take an alternate order.

Every single time I have visited with friends, the male servers working there treated me with such respect & I always get the mint tea 🍵 They always give me extra hot water as the tea sometimes gets cold when I talk a lot with friends. But the manager came up to me and said she cannot give me any hot water because it’s their policy - however I have brought so much business to Mado as I work and live nearby so it really shocked me that I could not get a glass of hot water.

I told the manager I would not be coming back and she said that’s fine and did not even try to make things better. We had ordered food as well and we were not occupying the table just with teas.

I was upset and the manager became extremely defensive and told me to complain to the head office. As we were walking out, she started following us out and making me feel very uncomfortable. My friend told her that I was upset and not to follow us which we found really strange and aggressive.

I mentioned to her that this is not the way to treat a customer and that I felt disrespected. She also mentioned there are cameras in the restaurant which I thought was odd in order to scare me from writing this review or complaining. This is completely disgusting.

Once again I want to reiterate that it was not a reflection of Mado as a whole because I have been going many times and had positive experiences but it was this manager that was really confrontational. I will never be coming back to this location nor would I recommend it to my friends considering the shocking and disturbing...

we were a group of 7 gathering for our friends birthday, and we often like to order several dishes and share at a table when we go to a new restaurant.

the food was decent and it took a reasonable amount of time to arrive.

however there was the catch:

when we were ordering, we said we wanted to share and they let us know that we can't because the restaurant has a rule that each meal can only be eaten by one or two people and therefore they can only give us one or two plates and cutlery. we clarified that we were ordering more items from the menu while waiting for the first portion to arrive but they insisted that we can't have more than two plates and cutlery. we finally gave up and ordered and they brought us, as promised, only two plates and cutlery sets.

now a group of 7 is munching on the food while deciding what to order and awkwardly sharing cutlery. eventually we got fed up and just randomly picked more things from the menu so that we can abide by their arbitrary and petty rule and have more plates and cutlery. so we received another plate and cutlery and continued our awkward dance of cutlery sharing. about 20-25 minutes later we asked for the remaining plates and cutlery and it turned out that they hadn't registered one of our orders.

anyway, we were hoping for a fun communal birthday brunch and ended up with a stressful, confusing, and frustrating experience because of a bunch of rules they had.

here's the verdict: never again

I would also like to clarify that although this horrible experience was handed to us by the wait staff, I don't blame them since it wasn't their choice to have these rules. they were friendly and honestly looked uncomfortable having to continuously say no to us.
