Maguro House replaces the old Guirei Sushi under new owner and new management. Quite honestly, I miss Guirei alot more coz of its good portion size and competitive pricing.

The new Maguro House has renovated mainly at the entrance, the sushi counter and the kitchen, otherwise, the rest of the dining room is pretty much like before, yet, the new management jacked up the price quite substantially for lunch and dinner choices and I don't see the value or justification of the increased pricing.

Gone are the good ol' days of Guirei offering lunch special at $13.00 to $17.00 CDN LOL

Maguro is very typical restaurant service, yet prices are higher up in the neighbourhood.

Anyhow, I ordered the Lunch Aki bento at $18.95 CDN that comes with teriyaki: choice of chicken, beef or shrimp on rice tempura: shrimp & vegetable assortment maki sushi: avocado roll (3), california roll (3).

Pros of my bento: Like how they give you salad dressing choices between ginger or sesame. I chose sesame and I like it. Only give you 1 tempura shrimp, however, it's a gigantic shrimp which I like. Other restos give you 2 smaller tempura shrimps Tempura is nicely battered and pipping hot which I prefer I like how they offer teriyaki shrimps coz most other restos usually offer teriyaki beef or chicken only

Cons of my bento: Veggie tempura assortment came with 2 pieces of yam and 2 pieces of eggplants. I would prefer them to provide 1 piece of each with more variety. Other restos give you tempura beans or asparagus, or mushroom or broccoli. If you don't like yam or eggplants, you are screwed with 2 piece each They only give you 2 small pieces of teriyaki shrimps which I prefer at least 3 pieces, coz 2 shrimps is too little to eat the rice that comes with it

Overall, this place is clean, welcoming, modern, it's bit on the pricey side, while providing typical food quality and service. It does its job but nothing spectacular.

In this area, I still amazed to see how there are 2 Japanese restaurants that offer the same type of food options located across each other and survive. Meanwhile, this area need a pizza place, burger place or fried chicken place to provide...

Nice patio but the food is sub-par. The sushi rice is okay but most of the dishes are either bland or poorly prepared. I've been here a few times since the restaurant changed ownership. Spaced out my visits a few months apart mainly because I keep hoping that it gets better. Alas, it has not. You can tell with simple dishes like tempura. The batter was off and you can just tell by the look. This last visit, I tried to see how the curry and fried noodles were. The "Japanese Curry" wasn't that Japanese. Too watery possibly due to too much onion? Very bland as well. Should have been much thicker and maybe some garlic would have helped 🤔 The fried udon noodles were a little disappointing as well. Maybe they sure serve it in a large bowl and offer spices to add. The atmosphere is all that would bring me back for a 4th time. I feel this place would be good for meeting up with friends for a casual meal with drinks. Not so much if you're looking for...

Excellent service my friend and I visited here foe dinner and we have to say it was unbelievable. From the time we walked in we were greeted by the chef and owner and a very nice hostess. The restaurant ambiance was very beautiful with low music playing in the back. The restaurant was very clean, our server was very attentive and professional she greeted us with a smile and took our wine and appetizers order, shortly after we placed our main order. Everything we ordered was amazing and was full of flavour, the presentation on everything truly a work of art. The hostess and waitress checked in on us. Certainly will be our new favourite place to visit again Family and kid friendly nice place for friends and couples to meet up, right alongside the waterfront. We are looking forward to returning...

I was a big fan of Guirei- Maguro is a lovely face lift and overall upgrade! Nice physical refresh of the place; patio is prettier, interior is much nicer. Service on my first visit was top notch, the chef behind the counter and server were so personable, warm, welcoming. Efficient without being obtrusive. Food was INCREDIBLE. Both of my orders came with complimentary upgrades. The basic food itself is so flavour filled, clearly using proper and fresh ingredients. Bit pricier than Guirei, but you clearly get what you pay for. I had just finished an intensely long day at work. Treated myself to a pint and meal while overlooking the waterfront and Music Garden. It was truly perfect all around. Thank you, see you again very soon.
