Saint Germain is a Chinese bakery. They have Chinese buns (matcha, red bean, pineapple, exotic sounding buns etc), lobster roll (added in recent times), premade drinks, and 16 different cakes.

The Chinese buns here are a bit pricier than other locations. I assume because it's the ingredients used and the different kinds of bun styles and flavors. $2+ for buns. I don't remember if they have egg tarts and cookies there.

The last time we went there, they said that they started serving lobster rolls. If you wanted a lobster roll, you would have to order it at the counter. They said that they make the lobster roll fresh.

We have had their cakes 4 times in total. The first cake we got from them was the Red Bean Green Tea Bavarian Cake for my birthday. The second cake we got was the Sicilian Almond Torte Cake for my grandpa's birthday. We then got the Chestnut Shortcake for... Just because we wanted cake. And lastly, we got the Tiramisu Cake, just because we wanted cake again. We didn't get all these cakes in the same year. We got them over the years.

All the cakes are really good, real delicious, light and not too sugary sweet. The sweetness is measured by how many circles are colored in on the cake list pamphlet. 0 circles has no sugar and 5 circles is sugary sweet. Though, by Chinese standards, it still wouldn't be deadly sweet. On the cake list, the least sweetest cake has 2 circles and the most sweetest cake has 3 circles rating. The Chinese like their sweets being lightly sweet. The cakes come either in circles or squares shaped.

The Red Bean Green Tea Bavarian Cake was really tasty. The green tea was strong. The red bean wasn't overpowering the green tea. It was rather harmonious. The icing on the cake was light and fluffy. The cake layers was just right. Seriously enjoyed that cake. The chocolate and fruit was an added bonus that lifted the cake up to a higher degree of satisfaction. The cake consists of green tea sponge cake, red bean paste, green tea Bavarian cream, and green tea chocolate film. The cake was square shaped.

The Sicilian Almond Torte Cake had many thin layers of cake and cream on the inside. We tasted the almond very strongly in the cake. The fruit and chocolate made the cake very pretty, and it also gave us a break from the cake's sweetness. The cake consists of layers of dense almond biscuits , Italian coffee butter cream, and crunchy caramelized almond chunks.* My grandpa really loved this cake. He even got a second slice. The cake was square shaped.

The Chestnut Shortcake tasted delicious. We tasted the chestnut. It was very soft and smooth. Creamy. Fluffy. Sweetness was just right too. The cake consists of vanilla sponge cake, chestnut filling, 36% whipping cream, and toasted almond.* The cake is circle shaped.

The cake we just got today- the Tiramisu Cake- again, it's light, fluffy, and lightly sweet. The chocolate and fruit on top is a nice addition to the cake. Very creamy cream layers in the cake. Again, the icing is light and fluffy, as all the cakes have it. The cake consists of mascarpone cream, house made lady fingers, Kahlua and Amaretto.* The cake is square shaped.

*All cake descriptions of what is inside is from the cake list pamphlet.

The Red Bean Green Tea Bavarian Cake was ordered over the phone and custom sized. All the other cakes were gotten from the display case. The sizes vary from 6", 8", and three more larger sizes. Larger cakes require 24-48 hours advance notice. If I remember correctly, if you order the cake online, you get 10% off. The cakes in the display changes pretty often.

Too bad I didn't get some pictures of the Sicilian Almond Torte Cake and the Chestnut Shortcake. But seriously, get the cakes here. Try some. It's really good. The best cake we...

We tried a few things from this Asian bakery (though the name is French) and while some of them were hits there were misses as well. My top choice is their Green Onion Sausage bun - complete bang for the buck with nice juicy sausage pieces embedded in nice soft moist (cheese and oil) bun. BBQ Pork bun was a let down especially because the pork filling was sweet and the bun was sweet too and I want my savoury snack to be either salty or a balance between sweet and salty. The Double Baked Almond croissant was good with a soft well baked croissant topped with almond shavings powdered with white sugar. The Coconut Cocktail bun had a nice coconut filling but the amount of filling was just not enough for me. The Yudine Bread (Apple Cheese) was average. The Napolean is a bit pricey for its size ($2.5 for the small one) but good. The Butter Cream bun was good with a very light mildly sweet butter cream filling (again I think the filling could’ve been a bit more but it was still ok). If you buy 6 items they dont charge you the tax. The place may appear pricey cakes/cookies are expensive) but so are many boutique bakeries in Toronto. Relatively speaking this place is still affordable. Overall a decent place if...

Update: Very disappointment. Not sure all the good reviews are real or bots!! It's very hard for me to believe that people like the pastries or buns. This is my first time trying them. I bought the bbq bun - meat was dried and no bbq flavor or seasoning. The curry beef puff the same, meat is dried and hardly any curry flavor or seasoning. I couldn't finish them, it was awful, throw them in the garbage. Taro pastry is bland, not sweet, no taro flavor and the shell is semi-hard. Chicken pot pie is just simply not editable at all. The shell is hard and no flavor what-so -ever, very bland. The only 2 things that tasted okay was the first 2 pictures. Overall, not worth the hype!

I just uploaded some pictures from another bakery called Happy Cake House in Mississauga. They make the best bbq bun ($1.59), the Bbq bun taste like bbq meat and not dry. The coconut buns (4 in a package $3.29), very generous with the coconut filling. They don't over charged you like all the...
