We had an amazing Christmas dinner. I checked out several menus online and chose Diva because they offered Lamb Rip Chop as the 3rd course. But on the actual Christmas night, the menu was not as advertised on their website. They substituted Crab Cake for Scallops and Lamb Rib Chop for Warm Vegetable Tart. I suspect the website might have the 2018 menu. Well, I was worried that I'd be eating too much meat because I would have chosen the Lamb Rib Chop for sure. I guess that solved my problem even though it was disappointing. The 1st course Butternut Squash Bisque was very delicious. I like my soup really hot and this one was really hot – right to the last spoonful which was a bit tricky because one doesn't expect that and it could be dangerous if one consumed it too quickly. The 2nd course Beet Salad was not amazing at all. The greens were somewhat tired and starting to turn. The 3rd Course Seared Sea Scallops With Crisp Pancetta was very good. The scallops were perfectly cooked – as I don't like my scallops half cooked. The scallops were also perfected seared on top with a beautiful flavour. The 4th Course Filet Mignon was the most amazing yet. The quality of the meat was excellent, very tender and smooth and not grainy, the meat was perfectly cooked, I asked for med to med-well which is bound to result in a tougher steak, but mine filet was perfect, pink on the inside, and very tasty on top. I appreciated that only one side of my filet was seared, not both sides. When the Sticky Toffee Pudding arrived, I had no room for it. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. The pace was good because the kitchen took time to deliver each course which really helped the digestion process (even though our server was very concerned about how long everything took). There's not enough vegetables for each course. They like to use micro greens – a tiny twig for a whole stalk of broccoli – but the alkaline-forming diet and fibre department is a very low. I wish we would get a bit more micro greens. Our server was pleasant at the beginning when taking our order, but not present enough which is why we gave this review four stars. The service was adequate as another server took away our plates as soon as we were finished. I am told later that our server had many tables and worked really hard. I didn't know. We really enjoy the food, this kitchen likes to use sous vide and we enjoy the results. If they would offer the Lamb Rib Chop as a regular menu item, we would be...
Read moreHad a birthday lunch for my partner here on a weekday afternoon. The place wasn't busy at all so it was quiet and it was very easy to get seated and receive help from the waitstaff throughout our lunch. The space itself is very clean and well-maintained, and you can tell the employees at Diva care a lot about working there. The ambience is, admittedly, not bad but also not what I would mention first to promote the restaurant, but its been updated just enough to be considered modern.
The food is however is simple but very good. We ordered truffle fries and a Caesar salad to share, and fish tacos and the grilled cheese with tomato soup lunch special as our mains. All the dishes were in very large portions and very sharable, enough that we took leftovers home. The Americano I ordered was also really good. Downside is that their menu has hotel/tourist pricing, so all the dishes are rather expensive. That said, portion sizes are VERY generous so sharing is totally possible if you decide to try it out.
The service we received from Monika was the highlight of our dining experience. She was so genuinely friendly, professional, yet still very approachable, and she made our time there very pleasant. She was helpful about dishes being sharable and everything we ordered came fast and hot. Then at the end she brought out a delicious chocolate fudge and vanilla ice cream dessert for my partner without even being asked. (I had indicated on OpenTable that our reservation was for a birthday.) What a great, unexpected way to end our meal!
So while Diva at the Met was a worthwhile trip, big thanks go to Monika for making my partner's birthday...
Read moreWe were a party of 5 and we made a mistake choosing this place to celebrate my daughter's birthday. What were we thinking, this is Vancouver! There are hundreds of restaurant within 1 city block. Ambiance and server were fine but the food was, sorry, I have no other way to say it but bad. Before I start with whats wrong, there were 2 starters that we liked - the carpaccio and the pork belly. After that it all went down hill fast. The duck breast with risotto - duck was cooked properly but over seasoned, the risotto ... where do I start... it was rice cooked in some cheese. Correct me if I'm wrong ,risotto is suppose to be creamy and cheesy. This risotto was not made with arborio rice. It looked like regular white rice with white sauce. It was bland and just not a risotto.we even order extra risotto in the side. Barely touched it. The butternut squash ravioli - the ravioli wasnt cooked through and the sage brown butter was just a puddle of oil. The halibut with gnocchi. There were so many things wrong. The broth it sat in tasted like tom yum. The fish was over cooked. I sent it back and the second piece was raw in the center. I ate around it. Gnocchi is supposed to be pillowy potatoes goodness. This was chunks of dough' literally. Was not even shaped like gnocchi . There shaped like cut up fig bars. The Kobe burger was ok. I think that was the best entree on that table. I am sorry I really wanted this to be a good dinner. We all left disappointed. Spend your money elsewhere. Or if you must eat there just...
