Food we ordered: Spicy Marinated Crab The seasoning was yummy and the crab tasted fresh despite being imported from Korea. It did not have a strong fishy taste which is good. However, for $40, the portion is tragic in my opinion. It’s the size of my fist (photo) and you don’t get much crab from just that amount. Portion is the only gripe I have with this, it is NOT worth $40. Soy Marinated Salmon I really enjoyed this, it’s like a soft, candied, umami flavour bomb. Delicious with rice and priced just fine. Uni Butter Scallops The scallops are tiny. Ours were overcooked, I do not recommend this dish. The flavours were nothing memorable either despite the delicious name it has. Seafood Pancake This was quite delightful, the crisp was really light and enjoyable. The sauce complimented the chives well. The octopus and shrimp were also well seasoned, this is worth trying.
129.98 is what I paid for 4 items after tip which is extremely pricey for what it was, especially portion wise for their signature crabs.
Service: All of them were friendly and courteous. Need improvement on refilling teas and waters though - we had to ask every single time for a refill. The service could be more attentive.
Atmosphere: Everyone was dressed in traditional wear and it was lovely and really set the mood. The decoration, lighting, and restaurant temperature were good. Dainty and pleasant.
Final verdict: The only things I would consider coming back for is the salmon and maybe the seafood pancake. I would not get the scallops and sadly not the crab, despite it being their signature dish. A shame because the crab price is way above what it’s worth, in my opinion. My partner did not even leave 50% full (I was fine.) If you love that specific dish (crab), it’s worth a try, but don’t expect to be full, at least not without emptying...
Read moreI could not believe how overpriced this place was. Thought I got a Michelin bill with minimum service. Yet the machine started with a high auto gratuity option. Crab was not even close to delicious. Def wouldn’t go back again.
Responding to owners reply:
I’m not sure what the owner is talking about, and the claim that “I am aware who authorized this review” is a false accusation. I genuinely wonder why you would say that. I am a legitimate customer and very disappointed in how you deal with low reviews.
A basic understanding of food is not determined by the restaurant owner, but by the customers you are serving. I’ve lived in Vancouver for decades and, as a foodie, this is only the second bad review I’ve ever left.
To my surprise, the owner responded with a strong, rude, and hostile reply—complete with a threat of legal action—which makes absolutely no sense. I dined here with a friend, ordered only a modest amount of food, and still spent $200–$300, which is an unreasonable price for what we received.
The standard of a restaurant is defined by whether diners enjoy the food, not by the owner’s opinion of their own food. A sudden legal threat over a review only reflects poorly on the restaurant and shows a lack of professionalism.
Responding to you quoting my original comments:
I edited my comment to change one word because I wanted to be fair, as I thought I may have asked for my water to be refilled. However, this does not change the fact that, despite my request, there was no service provided after the delivery of my food. In addition, the way your restaurant responded to low reviews was unprofessional and reflected poorly on the owner’s conduct. I have already reported this matter to Google. Please note that threatening a customer is a violation of Google’s policies and may have legal...
Read moreFrom the moment you step into JINMI restaurant you are transported to a realm where traditions from Korea meet innovation in every flavor and drink they have. Firstly, you can walk in, but definitely it is better to do the reservation on Instagram or website, new place in Vancouver, so it get a bit bussy sometimes, they have a reservation system which is good. The menu is a gastronomic adventure to the Korean flavors and designs from the master Chef Jin! They ask you if you want water or hot tea, which is excellent! For the main course we ordered prawns with a veggie combination, so delicious! The seafood pancake was a good portion and the taste was really good, vibrant vegetables and perfectly cooked rice. Also, the grilled spicy octopus margoosku and gejang-margoosku is a perfect flavor combination and the infusion with the spices were really amazing, it worth the price. The drinks we tried were tasty, especially the cool lime brûlée! The environment of the place is amazing, like if you were in a fancy Korean restaurant, ideal to come with friends and family! They have pictures and some arts directly from Korea. JINMI is destination that delights the senses and nourishes the soul! The people working there in this occasion were so friendly, I liked it, and points for that! They asked us, “is it everything good?” “Do you need more water?” Smile and were aware if we wanted something else! Washrooms were clean in this visit! They have a small bold outside if you are passing with your dog, which is kind from the restaurant! There are some seats in case you have to wait! Overall 5/5 in Korean restaurant classification! Asking my friends we will come again, especially because they are innovating with menu and constantly listening the customers!!! Points for that!! Menu is...
