We were travellers from Australia that were on our "Trip of a Lifetime" to Canada. We were booked into the Sandman Downtown Vancouver for 2 nights from the 12/7-14/7.
We were told that our breakfast which was included in our accommodation at the Sandman & on our 1st morning would be in Moxies Downtown Vancouver which was inside the Sandman.
To say breakfast was a shambles is an understatement.
We arrived there just after 7am where we were directed to get a voucher for breakfast from the Sandman reception, upon returning it took another 10 mins to be seated & we told the blonde headed waitress that we were on a tight schedule as we had to be out of there by 8am as we were flying to Vancouver Island....so we waited & waited & waited & after 20 mins spoke to the waitress to be told that they had staffing issues & only 1 waitress & 1 cook had come to work but our breakfast would be here shortly....
There was only 2 other tables that had people sitting at them so we waited ...& waited ...& waited to be constantly told its coming & on its way....well 8am came & went with the waitress telling us it'll only be a few minutes ....I'd wished we had of got up & walk out there & then....in the end after we finally had our breakfast we made a dash to the harbour to catch our plane to Vancouver Island but we'd missed the plane...yes we were angry & pissed off totally from the run around we had at Moxies. Even the VC Harbour Seaplanes did their best to try & help but by the time we could get on a plane, but by the time it was organised we'd already missed our Day tour on Vancouver Island.
We have approached Moxies for the reimbursement of our missed flights & tour due to their staffing issues & have been told the only thing that they would offer was a gift card....unfortunately we travelled from Australia on our trip of a lifetime & Moxies are NOT in Australia, so we feel that this not only insulting but a real slap in the face to us.
We weren't able to get a refund for our Day so we lost over $1600 CAD which is over $1800 AUD....
Yes in hindsight we should've just got up & left but we were constantly being told that our breakfast wont be long... only a few more minutes....yep well unfortunately that DID NOT HAPPEN!!!!
So all we can do is advise you if you are in a hurry & your staying at the Sandman Downtown Vancouver then DONT eat at MOXIES....as room service would have far more quicker.
Oh BTW the Canandian Breakfast was nothing to rave...
Read moreFirst I’d like to say that the server and manager seemed like lovely people, I just don’t think they were prepared for it to be so busy. My espresso martini took over 20min to come, and as it did it was clearly spilled because the whole stem was covered in the drink. I was also never asked if I wanted another drink. The truffle fries were delicious, but the rest of my group did not eat much of their entrees. The prawn laksa was not the most appetizing, and the chicken on the Caesar salad was cold and dry (Their review, not mine). When we initially ordered, I told the server that she could put in our appetizer and entrees all at once since I knew they were busy. We still waited close to an hour for our entrees to arrive, with our server coming by with a number of apologies. She likely forgot to put the entrees in, so would have loved some honesty about that. We then asked for the bills before the food arrived since we had to leave fairly soon, and she forgot to bring them to us, only realizing after bussing a few tables nearby. Before she brought us the bill, she asked if the truffle fries were going to be split, and we said yes. She then proceeded to put the whole thing on my bill. When the food finally arrived, we had to ask for cutlery. To be honest, we know how the service industry can be, and so we bit our tongue for a while, but by the time the bill mistake happened we were frustrated and decided to talk to the manager. The manager was very nice, and offered us a voucher and a coupon, but it meant we had to come back and spend more money there which felt unappealing. We appreciated the effort, but we just wanted to make them aware of the situation. This was our first time at Moxies and it was disappointing. All the staff were very friendly, and I’m hoping we just caught them on a bad night, but I would avoid going on a very busy night, such as...

NEW RESTAURANT ALERT! (Kind of…)
8.8/10 Overall 9/10 Food Quality 9/10 Service 9/10 Dining Atmosphere 8/10 Value
I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the new Moxies on Georgia! It just went through a MASSIVE Reno! Doors open this coming Monday June 5th so make sure to check it out! In addition to the main dining area, they have 3 large conference rooms that you can book out, plus a massive 250person ballroom! That and the patio are not done yet, so stay tuned on those!
TUNA SUSHI STACK $19.50 Sushi grade tuna stacked with seasoned rice, avocado, fresh mango, soy ginger glaze & spicy mayo + seasoned prawn crackers. This was VERY good! Probably the star of the show for us. Similar to the Cactus Club one =) 9.4/10
THAI CHICKEN SALAD $23 Marinated chicken with arugula, ancient grains, fresh vegetables, pumpkin seeds, cashews, avocado & crispy rice, with Thai-style cashew dressing. This was a very good salad!! 9/10
STEAK FRITES add Cremini Mushroom sauce $37.50 7oz Certified Angus Beef® sirloin, chimichurri, arugula & fries. So it was cooked well, sauces were great, BUT the choice of meat wasn’t the greatest. Even though it was medium rare, the meat itself was tough to cut and chewy to eat. Fries were good. Not a huge fan of arugula. Still overall a decent dish! It was tasty! 7.6/10
COCONUT CREAM PIE $11 Coconut cream custard, graham cracker crust, fresh whipped cream. DAYUM this was good!!! I would get this again and...
