Service is hit/miss. I have been coming here for years (probably almost 10). I had a large gap from the last time of my last visit until today since I wasn’t working downtown for a while. After trying it again today I remembered why I stopped going. I have only really had soups, vermicelli bowls and the odd salad roll here or there, so of course there may be better things that I haven’t tried. But I find the soup EXTREMELY salty and lacking any real flavour/spices. I am usually someone who likes salty things but this is overkill. The beef balls taste a bit weird.. They aren’t good. The beef in the soup was nearly all fat, no rare pieces, which some people may like, but I prefer the thin rare beef slices without all the fat. I find their spring rolls to be mushy and not very flavourful either. They are not good authentic spring rolls. I have had food poisoning from food here in the past as well.. there are many other better Vietnamese restaurants around. I honestly think the one in the food court at pacific centre is even better. I won’t...
Read moreSat beside a plant with at least 30 flies. Pho broth was clear, but bland compared to other places. No tendons in a pho dac biet. The couple times I made pho following a YouTube recipe tasted better. The bun bo hue (spicy pho) was just a normal pho with chilli oil, once again very bland. Never had a bun bo hue without a pork hock until I tried this place. The plate of bean sprouts that are served at every other restaurant makes them feel like a pho restaurant, but here they put it under your noodles and by the time you find/eat them they are borderline mushy. The spring rolls were oily and lacked the crunch, but once again very bland. They definitely skip out on a lot of minor but important ingredients. The only thing that stood out was the meatballs inside the pho, they were massive and tasted fresh. Prices are higher probably due to location, I would prefer a food court pho over this place for taste, even Vina's bun bo hue tastes more legit than here. Had very high...
Read moreDowntown does not have a lot of Vietnamese restaurants. This one is considered a good one with reasonable pricing, good quality and many options. We love it.
We ordered a bowl of spicy rice noodles and lemon grass chicken with vermicelli and a spring roll. Both dishes were great. The rice noodles were the round thick ones that we loved the firmness and texture of it. Only one critic about the spring roll from the vermicelli dish was that the size was small and there were only 3 pieces.
The ambiance was okay. Space was quite big in the restaurant comparing to others. Customer service was average. It seems one of the servers didn’t quite understand English or English as their second language. We had to repeat our orders and made sure she got it.
Overall we had a great experience eating Vietnamese food in downtown. We would recommend to our friends and family to try it if they are in the...
